We are going to be @ WDW arriving 8/30 and leaving 9/6 the first Halloween Party is our last night. Has anyone been to the party on the first night? Since it's our last night I need to know if it's worth going the first night?:mickeyjum

We went last year for the 1st party on the 14th. It started out great until the monsoon hit!! :guilty: It poured buckets for the rest of the night. We went the 21st also, and had a fantastic time. :cool1: The crowds seemed to be the same on both nights. The 21st was also our last night there and I would definitely do it again. What a way to end you Disney vacation!!!

I was led to believe that as the MNSSHP nights get closer to the actual Halloween date, they get busier. That being said, we went on Oct. 30th, '06 and found it quite reasonable (crowd-wise).

Now for bang-for-your-buck. Capping your Disney trip with a MNSSHP is probably the best thing you can do! It is the best fireworks / parade presentation of them all in my opinion. It does run fairly late into the evening and if you have little ones along, you need to consider taking in the earlier parade. You also have to consider your departure the next day. Having to leave early in the morning to catch a flight back home is alot harder to do with only limited sleep in you. Something to consider...

This Sept. we're ending our trip with a last night MNSSHP. And we will ALL dress up. pirate: I think most of us parents get a kick out of Trick or Treatin' at MK because... WE CAN!!! (Try that back at home and people send the cops)

... besides, think of the delicious candy! *drool*

I hope your trip is a success - Enjoy!

We are also planning on going 09/05. I hope its good. Does anyone know when they start selling tickets?

When making my switch to Pop Century (WOO!) the Cast Member on the phone told me May 1st.

For the past 3 years we have considered going but the cost of tickets always changed our minds. This year we are just going to spend the money and go. We will be there Sept 16. The kids will be dressed up but us the parents are still undecided. When picking costumes for the kids should I worry about them being too hot. Or since the party is so late will it have cooled off. We live in pgh so our halloween costumes are usually made to keep you warm. My 7yr old wants to be a dog so the costume would probably be a sweat suit w/ ears and tail. Will it be too hot for that.

An option is to bring the costumes in with you in the evening (you'll have to go back to the main gates and re-enter as they shuffle out the non-party goers anyhow).
Another thing to keep in mind in the costumes themselves. The heavier, bulkier the costume, the more cumbersome (uncomfortable during the parade, or waiting for the meet and greets with the characters) it will be for your kids. [My DW wore a very elegant dress 2 yrs. ago and found it to be too big to move around in and ended up carrying it for half the party]

Maybe consider the adage, "Less is more." Make up costumes that have certain components that still carry the idea of what your kids want to be.
ie: Add doggie ears, tail, collar and snout to a simple set of clothes for your 7 year old.

Also, WHY ARE THE PARENTS DRESSING UP????
I urge you to reconsider. I love this event more than anything else at Disney and seeing everyone dressed up really ads to the magic of the evening. Trust me, its well worth it!!!

I hope I helped somehow, PM me if you have more questions. Maybe I can help out.

Thanks for the advice. I will try to go simple on the costumes. Luckly I have months to plan. My 3 yr old wants to be Buzz but will insist on wearing is wings which will get in the way when riding anything and be hitting people as we walk through the park. I have a feeling my 3yr old will be having several costume changes. I made him a peter pan outfit last week which would work well. But he also wants to me Mickey and Woody and a dog. he has packed everything from his dreesup box in his suitcase. He has been packed since Xmas and we dont leave till Sept. Very Excited!!

My DH and I went to the party last year and dressed up. Really, it's the only time we can dress up and act like children. I even wore my Minnie ears around all the parks and had some compliments.
Dress up with your kids and have a great time. PP mentioned the parade and fireworks being the best. I have to strongly agree. Both were amazing. You can use the candy to eat on your return trip home.

There's not always a lot of occasions where DH and I can go all out and be the Halloween dorks that we are. At MNSSHP, we both dress up, in addition to dressing our DS3 in costume. For DS3, we keep it light. He's a pirate, so for us, that's a bandana, white t-shirt, blue shorts, sandals, a red & white striped sash, and a fake sword. This way in case it's warm, he's not sweating, and if he falls asleep in it, it's okay. :thumbsup2 We've done this same basic costume for the past two years and it works out great.

DH and I...well, we go a little nuts. DH is Jack Sparrow and I'm Elizabeth. I purchased my dress on EBay, so it is a heavier fabric, but very easy to wear. It was custom made, and I love it. My only addition to it is the Aztec gold coin necklace.

DH's costume is a combo of things we had custom made on Ebay and things we made ourselves or bought, and is very authentic.

We really go all out, and we love it. It's one time a year that we can feel like big kids, trick or treat in the Magic Kingdom, and have a fun time doing it.

If you're at all inclined to attend or dress up, I say go for it! :thumbsup2

can anyone throw some suggestions out for halloween costumes? I was trying to think of something my daughter and I could be that went together and wasn't too too hot. I'd like to hit the party on the 23rd, hoping by then it won't be too warm. :)

We went back in 2005 when they were starting the party at the end Sept and only doing the party 2 days a week and I found it pretty busy on the 1st night of party. We are going again in Sept on a Tuesday hoping the crowds aren't as bad.

My guess is now that they are starting almost a month early and are expanding the dates to more times during the week the crowds are going to be lighter.

Sunnyday, for costume ideas, surf the web. There are some great ideas out there. You could go as thing 1 and thing 2 from the Cat In the Hat. (I know it's not Disney, but it's still cute):cutie: Ketchup and Mustard? Anyway, you get the idea.
