12/27 Dinner at 50s Prime Time Cafe
We did not have an ADR for dinner. Our original plan was to return from AK in the afternoon and swim, rest (which we did) and then have a WS somewhere o. He monorail loop, and either chill at the resort or maybe go into MK for a bit. However, we were energized after about 30 minutes in the room, and after a less than stellar night at MK the night before (pirates was down, throwing our touring plan for a loop. In fact, DH and kids were stuck for a long time.) we started wondering what else we could do. We decided at about 5:00 to see what
MDE pulled up. I love to play with the app! Reservations for 5 can be limited, but we always saw about 6-10 options when checking last minute. That is a drop in the bucket of the options, but kind of a fun dining roulette. We spotted Prime Time at 6:20, and decided to go for it!
My kids had already requested we NOT go to Prime Time, due to the memory of being told they would have to do the dishes if they didn't set the table on a visit in 2014. So, we had not planned to go here, but DH and I both really enjoyed our meals there. We broached the subject as an opportunity to meet Vadar IF we ate there. That made he threat of washing dishes worthwhile. (My big kids had met Chewie on our first HS day, but ran out of time for DV.) the best part was, we still had time to swim! (Well, 10 minutes.) We got out of the pool at 5:20 and threw on clothes and headed to the bus stop. I was nervous we were cutting it to close with travel times, as the reports on bus travel in the evening to HS this week were horrendous. We didn't see a spot of traffic, though, so were at our ADR right on time. We were handed a buzzer and I was just making my way towards the outdoor stand selling Xmas beverages (glowing light bulb!) when the buzzer rang. Darn. I didn't ever try one.
We were seated at a table that had a booth along one side and chairs o. The other perfect for trapping the three year old between me and DH. The big kids grumbled about being forced to sit in chairs, but the kids menu had Star Wars crosswords and puzzles, so they moved on quickly.
I ordered a strawberry milkshake to share with the 2 dairy eating kids. This was better than Sci-fi's , with a fresh strawberry flavor and chunks of strawberry in it, but it had the same bizarre foamy, warm consistency. What is up, Disney? This out me off milkshakes in the World for life. Someone please tell me why milkshakes would be warm.
I ordered the seasonal fish, as my memory of the salmon on my last visit was stellar. This was a different preparation. The salmon was very good, a large portion, and it was served with perfectly cooked broccolini. It was served over sweet potato hash. The server just said potato hash. Why I ordered that, I don't know, as I had already confirmed my dislike of hash on this trip. There was bacon in it, and about a half jar of red pepper flakes. I love hot and spicy foods (including red pepper flakes), but this was major overkill. and it overpowered the milder salmon and vegetable flavors. I just skipped most of the hash on my plate. This was a "market price", which turned out to be $24.
DS ordered a chicken Caesar.it was very good, he ate it all, and it was large.
DH was impressed with the allergy menu here. He ordered the crab cakes as an appetizer. We haven't seen these gluten free anywhere else! This was pretty good. It only had one cake and had more topping (a sweet pepper jam like sauce and a chiffon are of a firm lettuce) than necessary. His entree was the meatless meatball dish. He was starting to not feel well. So wanted a mild entree, and spaghetti is his go to in this case. He said it was as good as meatless meatballs can be. I thought it was good. But as a former vegetarian, I kind of like fake meat!
ODD had the kids salmon with green beans. This was very good, she ate it all.
Our waitress was great, from Minnesota. She didn't do too many antics (which is why my kids actually loved this dining experience this time), but she felt like family.she actually sat with us throughout dessert and talked about her son. We weren't planning on dessert, but when she came up and asked, my DS ordered an enormous chocolate peanut butter cake ala mode on his own (he saw it at the next table.) it was too funny, we couldn't say no. So, the waitress and the rest of us sat and watched him try to eat it. He made a good effort, chocolate and peanut butter is his favorite, but it was the size of his head, and he left half on the plate.
We used our TIW (I do not have the total for this meal), and then the boys headed to launch Bay. I was taking YDD to the Frozen Sing a long, and ODD decided last minute to come with us instead, because I told her I would take her to Epcot for a Kakigori after the show. The show was fabulous, and then the trip to Epcot by boat was long (we did see the OL crowds I. Full force at this point... 9:00 pm and we had to wait for a 2nd boat), but the Kakigori was spot on! Is anyone keeping track of how many kakigoris this makes? I should tally them. We the. Walked out the front of Epcot to catch the monorail. My YDD was asleep on the boat into and grouch out Epcot, which made for a sweet night with my ODD. We definitely used up massive energy this day, though, which had a negative effect on the rest of the trip, to be discovered he next morning, but this was one of my favorite days and meals from the trip!
