Hi Disers!

For those of you that have done this :santa: I am wanting your advice. What did you think of this event? I was reading about it on Disney's site and it sounds like it is all held on Main street. The thing I have the question about is...It says it's from 7-12am. Is the fireworks the end of it and does that mean they don't happen until the end of the event? I guess I am :confused3 and if someone would be so nice to explain it all to me. Also disney's site does not give a cost for this. I guess I can call disney but if you know the ticket price will you share?

Thanks! :)

We went last year (Nov.) for the very first time.

It rained off and on all night, sometimes heavily; the "snow" on Main Street couldn't be done due to the rain; the wet roads cause the parade floats to get stuck (more than one, all at the same curve) and need to be towed away, stalling the parade; etc.

... and we still LOVED it, in spite of all that! :thumbsup2

Totally worth it IMHO.

(FTR, I assure you that is rain and not sweat on my shirt...)

We have done it twice, very fun. BUT, we did not do it when our kids were really little because we want to stay until the end. It is nice for us because people with little kids clear out about 10 and then it is almost desserted!

Our last trip was the week after Thanksgiving 2007, and we went to the Christmas Party our first full day there. Our kids were 8 and almost 5 (my youngest was due a month and a half later!). And we met up with my parents that night, too. We all loved it, and thought it was well worth the extra cost.

As the park was shutting down at 7pm, those with the Party tickets were "herded" to Tomorrow land until the park was clear. We got to see several characters to get pictures and autographs - Buzz and Stitch immediately come to mind. We got to ride the Stitch ride with no waiting. But a couple of my favorite things were the cocoa and snickerdoodle cookies, and a family Disney Christmas picture. They took the picture and we received it in the mail a week or so after we got home. Great for my scrapbook -I was actually IN the picture! :rotfl2:

Then, we went to Fantasyland and after riding a few rides there we saw the fireworks. I remember that we stood near the Winnie the Pooh ride while watching the fireworks, and still had a great view. I don't know if there was anything lower, but if there was, we didn't miss it.

Finally, we made our way over to the Liberty Square area and grabbed a bite to eat of "real" food and planted ourselves along the parade route until the Christmas Parade started. While we waited there, we were intertained by a Victorian singing group singing Christmas carols.

Even though it was pretty late getting back to the room, I don't remember the kids being overly crabby the next day. In fact, I think we had ADR at Crystal Palace the next morning and the girls were super. I really think that going on the first night we were at the park was the best plan for our family. The kids were not exhausted or overwhelmed by several days being in the parks, and it just added to the first day magic for them. (And Mom, Dad, Nana and Popa!).

We liked it so much that we decided we HAD to go to the MNSSHP this fall when we go on our next trip. We figured if the Christmas party was that wonderful, the Halloween Party would be just as great.

Sorry for the book, but I hope it helps you out in your decision.

We've done it and will be doing it again this November, but with really small kids I can't say it's too 'worth it'. My son was 2yo last year when we went and while he liked it, he was exhausted and wouldn't fall asleep in the stroller so just stayed all wound up and stuff. We were done by 10pm cause the kids were, but that meant we couldn't see some of the shows (lines were insane for the 7pm and 8pm things). We did see the parade, which they enjoyed, and did the dance parties and some character meet and greets, but other than that mostly rides. Oh, and they of course loved the cookies and hot cocoa.

If my kids were older I know they're enjoy it a lot more, be able to stay up later and therefore see all the shows and stuff, so I would definitely go if your kids are a little older. I would have skipped it this year, but we'll be with friends who have never done it so we're going again.

I'm glad to hear this! I am thinking of hitting the Party on our first day at the park too. I am still a little concerned about being tired from traveling and staying out until midnight. I think I still want to do it on the first night because I just feel like it won't be Disney until I see those fireworks over the Castle.

I have a question though. Do they have regular fireworks at park closing and THEN the MVMCP? Or do they only have the fireworks for the party?\

Thanks.
Colleen

Just the special Christmas fireworks, IIRC.

BTW, anyone else love the stage show like I did? My wife got a bit bored with it, but the kids and I ate it up. :)

What kind of shows do they have?

We saw a "Night Before Christmas" themed live stage show in the theater in Tomorrowland with Mickey and company, reindeer, hippos, and regular ol' human singers/dancers. Like I said above, the kids and I loved it -- the missus, not so much, so YMMV.

I think there was another show somewhere else across the park that we didn't make it to.

I really wanted to see that but when we got in line, 45 minutes early, for the 7pm show, we found out everyone was already seated and the line was for the 8pm show! So we left and then saw the parade so the next show didn't work and then it was too late for the kids. But I heard it's cute and really would have liked to see it. This year I guess.

There was I think a 2nd show, but I can't remember at the moment.

We did MVMC Party in 2007. We loved seeing the snow on Main Street and enjoyed the cookies. The fireworks were beautiful. Our main disappointment was that it seems many people who did not buy tickets stayed in the parks and it was super crowded....we thought it was supposed to be a limited admission. We waited to get into the special shows and never got to see them (and that was one of our main reasons to go). I would love to give it another chance but cannot justify paying over $100 just to see fireworks and a parade . I don't think we would do it again as we found just merely being in the park and seeing the lights on the castle and fireworks during normal park hours were just as special for us.

I see your point.:surfweb:

Slightly OT, but I have been to MNSSHP (last year) and if you liked MVMCP, you will love MNSSHP; it was absolutely awesome! So much to do, you'll have a fantastic time (note: go during the week if you can, much less crowded)

Thanks for the encouraging words. We are going on a Tuesday night. I think the other option was the Thursday or Friday night of the week we are going; and I really didn't want to wait until one of the last days to go.

Now I just have to get 2 of my 3 kids' costumes figured out. My oldest will go as Pocahontas (we have that costume), and I am trying to encourage DS to be Luke Skywalker or little Anakin. He loves Star Wars and that will be an easy costume for me to make. My other DD says she wants to be Cinderella, but I saw a REALLY cute Tinker Belle pattern that I know she would look adorable in. I know, they are supposed to pick their own costume. :rolleyes1

BTW Sorry to hijack the thread.

I figure, if I have to spend hours making it, I get the deciding vote. I don't force, I just strongly encourage, and if necessary, bribe.;)
