Mickey's-not-so scary Halloween Party

I would like to know about this. We are going on Sept 14. My kids will be 7 and 4. Are the rides still open? What is the thing not to miss?

And I know what you mean about singing Boo to You. It gets stuck in your head. "It's really not so scary...."

A good amount of rides are open, especially in Fantasyland. Lines are not long at all. The characters are dressed up in their halloween costumes (last year was Jester Mickey, and Piglet was a Flower - too cute!) It's a ticketed event, so you will need to buy a separate ticket, but it was very fun.

They have trick or treat stations set up around the park (hint - hit maybe 1 or 2, skip the rest, buy a bag of candy for $1.29 and use the time to hit the rides instead) And like PP said, the parade is not to be missed.

Oh I forgot to ask, We will be going to MK that day. We will most likely go back to the hotel for a break. We have the separate tickets the party, but my question is will we be able to get back into MK when we come back. We do not have the hopper option. If so is around 6 a good time to go back.

We took our 2 DS's last year. I didn't tell them we were going until it was time to get ready. Before our trip I had them buy their costumes. I then put the costumes in my bedroom closet to "prevent the temtation to wear them before Halloween." I packed all the costumes in a bag, that I didn't let anyone touch that bag. Once at WDW I put it in the closet, so my DS's would forget it was there. That day we spent at the WL pool. When it was time to get ready to go, I pulled the bag out and put it in the middle of the room. I asked the boys to please open the bag b/c I didn't know what was in it. When they opened it, I acted like I didn't know what was going on. "Why were their Halloween costumes on our vacation?" "Because we are going Trick or Treating at the Magic Kingdom," my DH answered. Our DS's started screaming and tearing at their costumes. DS8 was Spiderman, DS9 was Darth Vader, and I was the Blue Fairy(I used my matron of honor dress from my sister's wedding.) We went to all of the Trick or Treat stations, I think, in the entire park. As soon as we entered the park for MNSSHP, I told the boys it was up to them. We could either do more rides and possibly get les candy or get more candy and possibly do les rides. Needless to say, I didn't have to buy any candy for months b/c of it.
Riding the rides wearing costumes was so much fun!! The last thing we rode was the Tomorrowland Indy Speedway. I found it a little difficult to get out of the car in a full length gown. That is until a gentleman dressed as Willie Wonka offered me his hand, and helped me get out of the car with some grace. I said thank you, and told my DS that drove me, "See hunny, how a true gentlemen treats a lady."

We make a tradition out of going to MNSSHP every year. We love it and the whole family always dresses in costume. Love the lack of lines for rides (if there are lines, they go pretty quickly). The Boo To You parade and headless horseman is a must see. We also enjoy the special Halloween fireworks! Now even though most of us are big kids in my family, we partake in the trick or treating with all the candy stops. So much fun! You should go at least once!

I would see as it gets closer if that is the case again this year. We got there at around 4:30 both nights.

Indy speedway wearing a Minnie Mouse dress was pretty challenging too. Lets just say that the folks on line behind me may have seen a little more than they (or I) had bargained for. Thank goodness for opaque tights.

Yes, traditionally any time after 4pm the CM's allow you to enter for MNSSHP. We have never encountered an issue with this in the past 7 years.

If you wait until 4ish to go into the park you can use just your MNSSHP ticket and not waste a whole day's ticket to a park you already plan to be in...spend the day resting and swimming at your resort..then go at 4...and you can enjoy all you want til midnight! Don't miss the parade and fireworks...many familes dress up not just the kids and its fun! I'm taking my DD and DGD and we are sll dressing up for it!!!

Agree that the parade is a must see. We've been twice, and had a great time each time. We even got a picture with all Seven Dwarves:

I'm not in it (as usual). Lines are short. You get to see characters you don't often see even if it's only in the parade. And since we go in September, when the MK used to close early when it was still "daytime", the kids got to see MK at night.

I know a lot of people don't think it's worth it, but we love it. We surprised the kids last year, that's why we didn't have costumes. They had NO CLUE until we got off the monorail at the MK, and then they weren't sure until we went up to the security checkpoint.

Could someone please tell me: Do they provide bags for trick-or-treating or will I need to pack bags for my DD's? Thanks!

You can take your own bags, but they provide bags for everyone in your party. If you look at the picture that skoi posted the girl in the picture is holding an orange and black bag. That is the bag that they provide, and by the end of the night all 4 of ours were full.
