So...My family and I are going to MNSSHP this year for the first time and I was just a little curious what to expect. I'm almost 20...and I'm definitely dressing up but I'm not sure how elaborate people get...
I'm a fanatic for costumes...so regardless I'll have a decent costume whatever I come up with, but I also kind of like to be unique

Should I expect a lot of elaborate costumes or just simple things like shirts or hats or some face paint?

I was thinking about going as maybe Minnie Mouse or Alice in Wonderland...or maybe even the Cheshire Cat...I orignally wanted to go as Maleficent....but I just don't know...there's a lot of options and again..I want to be kind of original...
I've tried to find, with little luck, any good pictures of good costumes people wear...I usually just find parade pictures and the like

My halloween costume for this year is Harley Quinn from Batman (who is the little jester girl that's the Joker's sidekick) and my dad says that would be okay, but my manager at the Disney Store says people get a lot of crap for dressing up non-Disney (and I'd really rather have a Disney costume anyway)My mom seems to believe that no one will even know who I am if I wear my Harley Quinn costume and that people will just think I'm a harlequin...so I'm not really sure what to think about that

Anyway...I'm rambling...I'd really just like a little bit of advice and some insight

Are you a TGM subscriber? He has a good article about getting the most from the experience. I don't think it really goes much into costumes though.

Remember that it is a long night so be sure your costume is comfortable.

One thing we always do is make sure the costume is appropriate for the FL weather! Here in NJ heavy costumes are the norm, but for Disney--I always have to be creative for my sons...two years ago, DS2 was CHicken Little...shorts and a t...this year we are going as incredibles--he's 3 that's what he picked! So I bought him incredibles pj pals...

Anyway, my point--you don't want to be uncomfortable. One year we saw a guy in a full Beast costume-how he didn't pass out, I have no idea!

We have been to 5 MNSSHP's and you see everything! I would say that most people have some sort of costume. Some of the very best costumes I have ever seen have been during this event. I say go all out! You will get lots of attention if its a great disney costume. Don't be surprised if someone asks to have a photo taken with you! My all time favorite was a mother dressed as Cinderella, daughter as Sleeping Beauty, and dad as Prince Charming. Their costumes looked like they came from the folks that make the costumes for cast members. The detail was fantastic.
So, I say go all out! You will be in good company and have a great time!:thumbsup2

My wife and I went to MNSSHP for the first time last year while on our honeymoon, and it was the best night we had while on our stay.

I would say that although I think that the Harley Quinn costume would be awesome and I would know who you are, ALL the people I saw dressed up were dressed as Disney characters so maybe if you don't dress as a Disney character you'll feel a bit like the odd one out.

Either way you'll have a blast :sulley: :ccat:

hi

last year we wnt to MNNSHP, there were 8 of us (two families), the two DH went as the Blues Brothers, i went as Minnie Mouse, other was Pochahantos, 2 pirates, and lilo and Stitch , we had a fantastic time , though is was very hot.

there were loads of people who werent dressed as characters, just halloween shirts , the next time we go we will think about maybe having lighter outfits, as we were really very hot. but it was a fabulous night and the atmosphere was really great, everyone commented on our husbands costumes and they had a great time pretending to be Jake and Elmo!!!

and we brought our outfits with us all the way from Scotland too!!

so definately go and enjoy the night ,dress up and have lots of fun.

:cheer2: :cheer2:

We are going to MNNSSHP on Sunday the 30th. My DW and I will be Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. DD is going to be Alice. My Brother and his wife are going and are going to be the Mad Hatter and the Queen of Hearts. It should be quite a fun night. All of our costumes are very lightweight loose fitting cotton, so we should make it through the night fine. As long as it doesn't torrentially rain that is!
Here's DD's Alice costume:

She is excited beyond belief! We leave very early tomorrow morning!:dance3:

It's pretty warm here right now, but we've been having cooler nights than we were (read: NOT 94 degrees) But it was around 94 yesterday until about 7.
1. I would know HQ!! She and poison ivy are my FAVE!
2. My fam has always dressed in disney and in theme together, but this year we have about 8 extra guests so we had to broaden the theme, we chose to do Gangsters and flappers.
A lot of people dress and many of them do Disney but some don't. The one thing I can't stand is when ppl let their teenage kids wear monster masks and blood and guts type stuff. It just isn't disney appropriate. IMO. and sometimes you get the 18- 20something girls w/ skirts up to their you know whats which I'm usually not opposed to, but at WDW? come on!
SO I say wear what you like, keeping it Dis appropriate. HQ would be cool but of course to me it'd just be an excuse to make another costume:rotfl:

and know that you are not allowed to pose as a disney employee. I saw a guy w/ a jack skellington costume with this giant foam type head and ppl were getting their pictures taken I thought it was strange, it didn't seem to like a WDW CM costume, but he was posing so I asked a CM and got the guy in trouble, I didn't mean to. But there you have it.
Good luck with whatever you decide! I hope you have a fantastic time!

I heard that they will turn away adults who are too dressed up and look like a CM because they don't want the kids to think that it's ok to walk up and pose with someone who isn't??? Is this true?

I can't say for sure but I haven't seen it happen, we get pretty dressed up and have seen some really great costumes. Last year we did POTC and I did Elizabeth when she sneeked onto the ship and someone thought I was a CM... a CM heard me say "oh, I'm sorry I don't work here" and said "No, but her costume is fantastic, isn't it?" Last year we even saw a guy w/ the davey jones tentacle face mask on you could only see his eyes, they let him in and the jack skellington one I mentioned before was completely covered, the big foam head hid his face completely. SO in my experience I don't think that it really matters that much just don't get caught impersonating a CM I have been told by CM's that they have kicked ppl out for posing for pictures etc...

Last year at MNNSHP we saw someone who was dressed like Willy Wonka, aka Johnny Depp style and he was fantastic, i could have sworn that it WAS Johnny Depp. everything about him was so similar he was amazing.

How cute is she?!!
We love looking at everyone's costume--for us, I have kids who sweat very easily--so like I said above, a light costume is a must!

WE were just at MNNSHP last Friday!!! It was our 1st one and we had a blast!
Some people are very dressed up nad others are not. You will see it all! I would say most people do something Dissney themed! I saw a family with the original Mousekeeteer shirts with mouse ears on and they looked great!
You should think about comfort and the weather. I brought my boys costumes with us ...but it was too hot. The boys and DH all wore matching Incredibles T's and I just bought a cuteMickey Halloween T while I was there to wear!
Have fun...you will get tons of candy!!!:)

Is the villains mix and mingle a stage show? If so, how long is it? Can you get pictures with villains after the show and is it crowded? Does it run into the parade and fireworks times? Leaving in 4 days can't wait!

I am 27 and my girlfriend 26. We don't have kids. We went to MNSSHP on the 4th Oct and had a great time. We were dressed as Superman and Superwoman. Being non-Disney was fine, in fact it was nice to stand out. People wanted their photo taken with us! It was so much fun and there are some really crazy outfits - I say go for it if you want to make the most of it!
