Mickey's Not so Scary for Adults?

My wife and I are spending one day in the parks KID FREE (!) on October 9th this year before our cruise over the holiday weekend. We have no-expiration park hoppers with four days left, so our plan originally was to start in DHS, have lunch in Epcot (Food & Wine!), and hit Magic Kingdom for the new parade by 3pm and spend the rest of the evening there.

The new wrinkle is that October 9th has been announced as a date for the Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween party. So, do we pay the extra $67 per adult to attend the party, or come for the parade and leave for another park (probably DHS since Fantasmic rates higher than Illuminations for us - Extra Magic Hours is 8-9am on that day for MK)? Is the $140 worth it even without your kids?

Thanks for your insights!

Hey....DW and I are returning for our 3rd Mickey's Not so Scary this October, all without kids. We really enjoy it...the costumes, decorations, the Parade, Villain's Dance, the ride of the Headless Horseman and, yes, the trick or treating. It is just a blast, maybe even more so without the kids.

I guess the question of is it worth it is a subjective one, but, IMO, if you have never been before, it is definitely worth doing if you have the chance.

Hope this helps.

We did it last year for the first time and thought it was pretty cool. The parade is awesome. Planning to do it again this year... also on Oct 9th!

You have to decide for yourself what you are willing to pay, but your description of that day sounds like it would be a great one to me.

I agree with the PPs that, if you have never done it, you will probably love the Halloween party. Seeing some of the costumes people come up with is great, the parade, headless horseman, and Hallo-Wishes are fun and, if you aren't interested in some of the special character greetings that draw big lines, you can ride many of the major rides to your heart's content. In my experience, all of the mountains are walk ons during the party.

Go Blue!

Oh my goodness, yes! It's awesome! If you have never done it before, go for it! It's a lot of fun. I just love the effects, the characters Disney pulls out (Seven Dwarves, Jack & Sally), and the parade is really cool.

The two of us have gone to 5 MNSSHP without kids. We love it.
The parade is the best!
We even wear costumes and go trick or treating.
We have our tickets for this year already. Only you know if you want to pay the price.

Worth is in the eye of the beholder.

I personally wouldn't pay the extra money for just myself and DH without our kids. Doesn't interest me in the slightest.

Halloween themed parade
Trick or Treating (yes adults can collect candy)
Dressing up (adults can do this too if they want)
Character M&Gs in Halloween attire
Rides with minimal lines

If any of that sounds good or fun to you, then yes, it might be worth it to you. :)

My wife and I have annual passes, and we're going to pony up the cash to get MNSSHP tickets for the night we arrive, since we won't get to Orlando until nearly 5PM. Originally we were going to do it to save a day's admission on our tickets (we found a great deal on five-day hoppers), but after we got the APs, we decided to stick with the plan and do something we never did.

The big thing for us is that it's literally the only time adults are allowed to dress up in the parks. We're not wearing anything too elaborate, for example, I'm going as Tony Stark. I got a shirt with a light-up arc reactor in the middle, I'm having a friend of mine that does cosplay make me a gauntlet with light-up repulsor for my right hand, and I'm keeping my goatee long so I can trim it before the trip. That's it. Mobility and visibility is a big deal, you don't want to be weighed down with an elaborate costume.

Honestly, we're not ones for meet & greets with the characters or parades, so we'll probably just do the rides and check out the decorations. But it'll be lots of fun. :)

DH and I have been going to MNSSHP for the last 5 years (no kids with us yet!) We really enjoy it. The parade, characters in their Halloween costumes, Hallowishes and trick or treating around the park is always a lot of fun for us! IO would recommend checking it out :)

We thought it was fun....but probably not really worth the cost.

As others have said, it's subjective. We went with all adults and one 5-month-old. We didn't feel like the shorter lines were worth it (they weren't that much shorter, and they aren't ALL open). The parade is really excellent, I'll say that, and Hallowishes fireworks are great, maybe my favorite part of the whole party, but for a kid-free night, I'd rather spend that money on dinner and drinks at California Grill, watching the fireworks from up there with the music piped in. Or dinner at Ohana and then watching them from the beach at the Poly.

I'm also a big Fantasmic fan, so I'd head over to DHS in a heartbeat.

We aren't big on candy or dressing up - and we found it was too hot to dress up when we went in October anyway. But we have friends (who don't have kids) who LOVE dressing up, so they really love MNSSHP.

And I think I may feel differently when our son is older and can enjoy it more/differently. But $140 can be spent better elsewhere on a kid-free day, IMPO.

Dh and I are going for a no kids trip in September. We are planning on doing the party twice while we are there. We love the decorations, the music, the parade is wonderful, the fireworks. We probably won't do any character meet and greets but rather spend some time doing the better rides with minimal waits. We will get a couple magic shots that are only available at the party. We went last year with our kids and the hitchhiking ghosts picture came out incredible.

If you do decide to go, do some research so you can make the most out of the party and not just stand around wondering what to do next. The hub gets VERY crowded so it can feel overwhelming but if you done your research and know what you want to accomplish you'll be all set.

The only thing that upset me last year was feeling punished for maximizing our time in the park. We heard they gave out some peeps at the end so made sure to swing by and grab some after we left. Walked around and around for about 10 minutes before finally asking someone where the Peeps were at.

They were all out.

Come on man! How is this possible??

I would still go back but I think next time we are going to try getting the Peeps first. Not shutting me out a second time! :)

DH and I are going for the first time this year and we will be without kids. I am really looking forward to the parade, the fireworks, and the minimal waits for the rides.

I briefly mentioned to my husband the option to dress up and to my surprise he said he would do it... so we might dress up as well. I think it will be fun, but since we have a short trip planned the biggest thing that made it worth it to us was having more time in MK.

The party is so worth it, especially if you've never been. In my opinion the parade is hands down the best parade they do. The headless horseman, the grave diggers with shovels, the villains. All of it! You get to see characters you normally wouldn't. The fireworks are great too. It's just so much fun!

DW and I have a trip planned in September and will be going to the MNSSHP in costume. A few years ago we went to the Christmas party without the kids too. Mine are in college now so they are too busy to vacationing with the mouse so we go without them and have a great time.

We think it's worth the money kids or not. We always enjoy the party and think it is worth the extra $$ to attend. Attraction lines are short, the parade is the best we have seen in our opinion and the fireworks are fun to watch.

Ok, I've never been and will be down there on the 10/5 weekend. We did not plan on going to the Halloween party but did plan on going to MK that day.

How does it work if you're in the park but do not purchase the party tickets. I've heard one person say, you stay in the park but can't ride the attractions, purchase merchandise or food.

I've had another say, that cast members look for those without bracelets and escort you out?

Does anyone who has been there before know????

Even if your not much for dressing up and the costuming all around, its great fun to have the short wait times. I was able to get on rides last year that I never could get on before due to standby times.

At 7:00 the park is officially closed to day guests who do not have party tickets. CMs will stand at locations such as entrances to the lands and if you do not have a wrist band you will be directed back towards Main Street. Other CMs will be stationed at the entrance to stores, bathrooms and restaurants and again, those without a wrist band will be directed towards Main Street and the exit. You cannot remain in the park.

Those without party tickets who are dining at TS restaurants, but finish after the start of the party will be escorted by a CM to the park exit.

DH and I have done MNSSHP twice. I definitely think it's worth it. The parade and fireworks are the best! One of my favorite things to do is do Haunted Mansion. They add mist and extra lighting and it is so much better than during the day. I even got DH to trick or treat. It made us both feel like kids again. This year we're going to MVMCP in November. I love the parties.
