Do toddlers find Mickey's Fun Wheel to be fun or scary ? I am not too happy at such heights but I am willing to brave it just for my 3.5 year old provided he enjoys it too ! Half way through the ride if he is screaming and crying to get off there's nothing I will be able to do !! In general - what is the consensus ? How do younger kids handle it ?

TIA ~

My 3 y.o. loves it! There are two separate lines, one side is swinging gondolas and the other is for stationary ones. You'll definitely want to take the stationary side with a little one. :)

Don't know about him but I DEFINITELY WANT to take the stationary gondola. Not brave enough to handle the swinging ones !!:scared1:

Thank you barefootmomma.

I am right there with ya! :thumbsup2 I did get on the swinging side once to scare my mom before she realized what was going on. It was pretty hilarious and worth the terror, but I sure wouldn't do it again either.

I have (irrational, I know) fear of heights so the swinging ones completely freak me out - I have never done them, and don't plan to :) I can handle the stationary ones just fine, though. My heart rate picks up a bit when we swing up, but I'm OK :thumbsup2

But enough about me - to answer your question. Personal experience. My DD, now 6 years, loved this ride from age 2-5. Last year - went on it (stationary, of course) and she *hated* it. Doesn't want to go back on. :confused3 Toddler might be the ideal age, before a (possibly hereditary  ) fear of heights kicks in ;)

My husband and kids love it. I don't, but find that if I ride one of the stationary gondolas and close my eyes....I have no idea I am up high on a ride. It is VERY smooth, and not super fast moving.

I don' t know about toddlers but it's scary for ME lol. I can't handle the swinging ones at all. I actually have video of myself from the last time I rode it (my bff forced me too!) Some kids are ok with it, some aren't. My 12 yr old doesn't like it either.

They have barf bags under the seats in the swinging gondola's say no more. I HATE the swinging ones. LOVE the stationary ones.

I rode a swinging one ONE time, pre-kids. Never ever again. Last trip, my 4 year olds loved the stationary one- so much so that they went on again with daddy while mommy sat it out :)

i too have an irrational fear to go on , cuz they lock you in the cages and i had nightmare where i was riding it and it fell into the water next to it and i was locked into the cage. so now i dont go on it:sad2: :sad2:

We rode the sliding one with a 3 1/2 year old and an 8 year old. They loved it! But then the 3 1/2 year old girl likes the silly swings too.:lmao: Shes just a crazy girl! I think she'll ride anything she's tall enough for. It's the 8 year old that is always hesitant to try anything.

my dd was 2-2 1/2 when we went. Somehow we ended up on the swinging gondolas . DD loved it ! She laughed her head off and kept trying to move my arm from holding her. I didnt like it. Dh didnt like it and almost threw up on it .Poor lady that was stuck sitting infront of him facing him, she was scared he was going to vomit all over her-lol! I was shocked that there wasnt a bar to hold people on the swinging gondolas .

This is my (recently 3) 3 year old on the Swinging Mickey Wheel, as you can see she loves it, it is very smooth and gives you a bit of a rush too. She would be bummed if we did the non swinging and to be honest she isn't super brave - she hates the Matterhorn and she doesn't like peter pan because it is dark but LOVES the Mickey Wheel.

I rode in 2009 with a couple and a girl about your boy's age (complete strangers), and the girl not only seemed to love it, but was insisting it wasn't scary. (I hadn't ridden it since 2005, if then, so I found that reassuring. :) ) My only concern is that it's possible he might pick up on your worry and react negatively. But it's hard to tell from your post if you're actually somewhat frightened of it, or just a little bothered by it.

:scared1: It likely won't change your mind, but the ride is based on a design that's been running summers in Coney Island since 1920 with a flawless safety record. So the mechanics of it are sound.

(That said...I still don't love it, as I don't care for heights! :flower3: )

I went on the swinging ones once- never again.
I have been on every other ride in both parks and have no problems, but that ride freaks me out.
I am on the mature side, but I screamed like a 3 year old.:rotfl:

Does it stop over and over again to let people off and new people on? It's the waiting that scares me!

I actually cant remember it stopping, I just remember jamming my feet against the seat in front to stop myself from falling off & screaming!!!:lmao:
Oh & I remember pleading with the CM as we went past to please let me off!!!

How many people ride in each gondola?

Will a party of 2 (mom and son) be placed in a gondola with others?

I ask because I know that my reaction will embarrass my son if we are with others :)

I am not scared of the swinging gondolas but I do laugh/scream when I am having fun!

Ok, that so got a LOL out of me :) I could totally picture this :rotfl:

Yes :) Thus it's kind of a long wait to get on, and there's long periods where you are in the cages, just sitting still, or slowly moving up, cage by cage. My fear of heights kicks in when we are slowing inching up to the peak - I'm not so bothered when it's smoothly cycling. I can handle it though ... and the view is really wonderful :thumbsup2

This seems to be random depending on the CMs :confused3 I have seen them going down the line looking for smaller parties to put together, and then other times - just loading per party (some cages will just have 2 people in them). Whether the line is long or not ... it seems completely random to me.

The Fun Wheel (Called the Sun Wheel when I went on it) is probably the only ride I will never go on again. Actually, I may consider taking one of the stationary gondolas, but the first time I went on it, we were in a swinging one and even though I have no fear of heights, there were no seat belts or anything so when you swung, you were totally horizontal, laying on your back, or facing totally down. I was close to tears, lol.

I had a death grip on the metal grate behind my seat.
