Our upcoming trip in November will be our first time have a dining experience with Disney. We have always wanted to try the Backyard BBQ and this time, we decided to just go for it, after all, it will be our big Thanksgiving dinner! Is there anything I need to know? Like what will be on the menu? I have a 2 year old daughter and she is quite the picky eater sometimes, we are concerned there won't be much on the menu she will eat. Also, how long is the dining experience? Im assuming there is a "show" with it. Do you just go at your designated time, eat and leave? Or is it planned out to the "t"?

We've done it several times. Get there early and have picture taken with a character. Goofy once and Chip & Dale another time. There is a waiting area until time to go in, with a few small table set up for checkers or a little play area for the kiddos. A CM always brought out some lemonade or punch for while you wait. The seating is long picnic tables, try to get a seat at a table close to the dance floor. There is some sort of show/singing and a cowboy/lariat show. Then Mickey & Minnie come out and some others too and dance. The kids can go out and dance with them but it can be crowded on the dance floor.
To eat there were hotdogs, burgers, ribs and chicken (roasted I think). Salad, baked beans, mac/cheese. I have read they are adding some other foods to the menu soon. Drinks are lemonade, punch, beer & wine. Oh, and all you can eat Mickey Ice Cream bars, lol. Our family enjoys it.
I don't remember how long but could easily be a couple hours.

Thank you so much for all the information! my daughter should be able to find something to eat! I was so worried about her not eating and feeling like we'd wasted a meal opportunity! it sounds like a great time! we cant wait!

A few pictures from our 2010 trip

thank you so much for the wonderful pictures! that helps soooo much! i think this is exactly what we were expecting! my mom is beyond excited about this, we used to camp there every year and would always hear (and smell) the commotion going on as we passed by to catch the boats and every time we said we wanted to try it out! this year, we're making it happen! :)

1) You will havbe a good time.
2) Too bad you waited until they doubled the price without adding/changing food or entertainment.

oh man, they doubled the prices? bummer! hahaha the last time we camped there was in 2007 and every time we passed by we said we were going to do it! now with my little one, we made it a priority (plus we're staying on disney property this time!) if we knew it was cheaper in the past, we probably would've done it!

thanks for the thanksgiving menu! i didn't even think that they would have a different menu for thanksgiving! thats good to know! looks like my little one will be able still eat on thanksgiving…she's a fan of hotdogs and i knew if they'd at least have hotdogs and salad, she'd be set!

We've always use the dining plan when we go. Sometimes free dining, sometimes not, but I would never pay out of pocket the Disney prices at any of their restaurants. When we don't do the dining plan we eat quick service or go off property, lol.

last time, we ate every meal off property, but this time, being thanksgiving, we wanted a spectacular meal and didn't need the dining plan, so we splurged on a nice dinner for thanksgiving hahah
