We are thinking of going to Mickey's Backyard BBQ in December. Are there any reviews of this? We've been to Hoop Dee Doo and liked that. MBBBQ seems awfully expensive at $45 for an adult and around $26 per child (3-9). We'll be 8 adults, and four kids 6-11. Appreciate any thoughts on this dinner show. Thanks!

I'd be interested in this too. I know it is a seasonal event so wasnt even sure they had it in Dec.

My DH, DS, and D mother-in-law did the Backyard Barbeque at our last visit in August 2007. We absolutely didn't like it! Didn't think it was worth the money or time.

From the reviews I've seen on this board - it is not everyone's cup of tea.

We loved it last year. And have booked it again for this year. It was on my DH's and both DDs return list.

The food is good. Basic BBQ food. I'll admit I didn't try the burgers - as they didn't look very tasty. But the ribs were wonderful. My DDs loved the chicken. And my DH really loved the potato salad. It also includes beer, wine and Mickey bars.

AS for the entertainment. We found it fun. Characters come out and dance with the guests. A cowboy comes out and does rope tricks. Someone comes out and teaches the electric slide.

My suggestion is to go to utube and do a search on Mickey's Backyard BBQ - see the movies people post there. That would give you an idea if the entertainment is something you would enjoy. Everyone has different desires for their vacations.

My family and I just returned from a week in the world. The Backyard BBQ is the only thing that we will never do again! The food was subpar and the entertainment was unorganized. It seemed like a free for all, not something that my family and I enjoy! Families were pushing and shoving and it was very easy to get lost in the crowds.

We did the BBQ when our kids were younger. We loved it so much the first time that we did it again on a follow up trip. At the time, the food was excellent, the dancing was a blast, and the characters were easily accessible for photos and pics.

This seems to be the general consensus of a number of people...and given how expensive this meal is, I would be very hesitant to try it. If it were $20-$25/adult then maybe it would be worth it.......maybe.

We've considered it a few times, done the HDDR many many times and for the money, HDDR wins. We're in WDW is the warmer times and the barbecue is in a none A/C affair, fans. For the money they ask, I'll add the extra and be inside Pioneer Hall with the A/C. No matter how many times we've seem the Revue, it's still funny and we've never been upset with the food and drink offerings. As for the characters in the barbecue, those we can see in the parks.

Our Ratings of Mickey's BBQ:

. . . food price value: C (if on DDP = F)
. . . food quality: C
. . . food quantity per serving: B
. . . food prep speed: B
. . . food selection: C
. . . seating quantity: C
. . . seating comfort: D
. . . eatery atmosphere: C
. . . eatery convenience: B
. . . staff friendliness: B
. . . staff helpfulness: A
. . . Character interaction: C

NOTE: Tables are long picnic tables of about 40 people per table, so you sit with other families. No reserved seating, so the "mad dash" for seats can be interesting. There is no "front row", just the end of the picnic tables. Folks start lining up about 1-hr prior to the 5:30pm seating. Also, characters are there for dancing and front interaction, and do not go to tables - so, sometimes there is a long line trying to get to the charcters.

Last April we attended the MBYBBQ and Hoop Dee Doo. We didn't care for Hoop Dee Doo, the food was terrrible. My family did really enjoy Mickey's BBQ especially my twin grandchildren (age 7). I think they liked the freedom of not having to be seated during the show, they liked the character interaction and the show. They even got to participate. It was a nice evening and being outdoors was great. Beer, wine, tax and gratituity were included in the price (we used the dining plan). We are going to Disney again in April and I wasn't going to book it, but everyone, including my husband said that they want to go back.

Our thoughts exactly.:thumbsup2

I'm going to MBYBBQ next week during my son's 5th Birthday trip.

We've done HDDR twice with him (btw it's a great show). Even though he enjoyed HDDR, it it was really for me. Since this trip is all about him, we're giving the MBYBBQ a try (with a little reluctance based on what I'm reading).

Since your group is 8 adults, and the 4 kids range from 6-11, I'd recommend HDDR for sure. The adults and the 11 y/o will definately prefer it. And I know the 6 y/o and above will like (if not love) it.

We have done the BBQ twice. Both times we have enjoyed it very much - esp the kids! This past time, not so much but we were all coming down with sinus infections so they played a part in it.

The first character dance is ALWAYS a mad house of kids and parents pushing and shoving to get their kids' pics with Mickey. The 2nd and esp. 3rd dance sets are much more relaxed and fun. I make my kids eat during the first set and then they are up on their feet dancing the rest of the evening.

As far as food - enjoyed the ribs, kids had hot dog and corn. It is basic BBQ food. The lasso stunts were fun to watch.

That being said, this trip we are doing HDDR, for a change - haven't done this since 2005, and if my grandparents join the trip for Apr/May 2010 will probably do HDDR then too (grandfather's favorite and they haven't been since 2003).
