Thinking of going to Mickey's Backyard BBQ. Is it too hot to do in August? When is the best time to go? Also, is the upgraded category worth it? Thanks for any information!

I went in august a couple of summers ago. It was bearable but we also enjoyed the adult beverages. I don't remember there being different seating categories though. All the kids were sitting on the floor watching and when the characters danced they were off to the sides of the stage. We had a table all the way on the end and it was perfect for meeting and dancing with characters.

You are under a pavilion with fans, so it will still be warm. 2 good things though: First, it's at the end of the day, so things start to cool down a little. Second, Fort Wilderness is pretty well shaded, so the sun won't be too bad.
In my opinion, the category upgrade is not worth it. You can still get to meet all the characters, both before and during the BBQ. No need to pay extra to see them early.

The upgrade gets you seats closer to the stage. But when we went, and were at a picnic table right by the stage, I didn't like it. Personally, I would rather sit further from the stage. I had people standing all around me while I was trying to eat, taking pictures and watching their kids have fun. I felt crowded and uncomfortable.
I went up to get Mickey bars with the kids and when we came back, there were people sitting in our seats watching the performance!

As for the best time to go, if you are somebody that can't stand any sort of heat, you should probably go in late fall (November) or early spring (April). I think June and July are the hottest with the strongest sun. If the heat does not bother you, any time is great.

It is very comfortable in the pavilion. You dont feel the heat, or rain or any bad weather.

It is not worth the upgrade. They try to stay orderly for the first 20 - 30 people who enter the "tent", but after that, its a free for all and everyone starts grabbing a table/spot where they can. If you show up early, you will get a front row seat regardless. While you are waiting outside for the show to open, you are served lemonade and sangria and get photo opps with some characters. I get there about an hour early. The time goes by quickly (especially after waiting 2 +hours in some ride lines at MK!!) and we always get great seats....not that there are any bad seats anyway!
