Mickey's Backyard BBQ Category 2

Really? Why would that be? Have any of you done the BBQ before and know why they might say this? I'm concerned because we're doing this meal on our Disney arrival day, coming from Universal, so I feel like I have to keep moving up our check-in at the Fort.
The early arrival time is only for category 1 seating, which has the benefit of having an early character greet and some other things. Sorry I accidentally typed "2" at first but corrected it. This is getting confusing.

I just booked for November 10th through the website. I was offered only one pricing level (matched the Category 2 pricing). However, the reservation on MDE and the E-mail confirmation I received state Category 1. Did this happen to anyone else?

Yes. That's why I was sooo confused yesterday. When I called this morning they said I was definitely booked for category 1, which is great if you're using dining credits, but if you're paying cash and want to save a little, you might want to call and see if they can change it to category 2.

Oh, cool. I was worried that if Cat 2 needed that time that Cat 1 would be even earlier. Wow, I don't know how many people might fit in the Cat 1 section, but that seems like a lot of time for some nice interactions. I'm more excited for this meal as our introduction to our Disney stay.

1) GREED IS GOOD !
2) Both Gordon Gekko and PT.Barnum would be beaming with pride.
3) And, Walt spinning over in his grave !

I am kind of with you on this one. Usually an avid Disney supporter, this one is bothering me. I booked my reservation for MBYB 5 months ago with the expectation that I could pick up tickets early and arrive early and still get a good seat. We are on the dining plan, but I was planning on doing this one OOP. Now, I have to either pay over $40 more or be guaranteed a seat in the back and last food access.

I understand offering a tiered pricing system, but it is not good service to impose such a system on those already holding tickets. They could and should have implemented this system for future reservations.

Disney can charge whatever they want and that is capitalism. I have not problem with it.

I am, however, seeing a pattern of making changes to my existing reservations that is really making me >:(.

I just called to change my reservation to a Category 1 and was told that there is no Category 1 availability. I am not happy. I booked MBYB more than 180 days in advance and I got no notice that this was changing. I sent an email to guest services expressing my complaint. I wonder how many others are in a similar situation.

Okay I thought I would try this out too since I was considering it for arrival day. This is for Sept 3rd. I booked for 4 people, the main reservation page said "all seats" and price is the old price, but my reservation screen clearly say "Category 1." Weird.

I'm back to update as we did the cat 1 this past Friday. We were very happy. Cat 1 gets you in the actual pavilion an hour early with the characters where cat 2 they tell you to be early but you just line up to wait and meet. We didn't get there until almost 5:00 due to transportation issues but were walked right in. Mickey and Minnie were waiving us down to come over to see them. Then Goofy came over and grabbed the kids to take them to Chip and Dale. The kids went back to them a second time as in the first pic we forgot to have them wear the kid races chip and Dale metals. This was the best character interaction of the trip! We had a reserved table with our name on it along the dance floor so had the perfect view for the shows. We also had early access to the buffet so got to the food first with no lines. I think it was definitely worth the extra $5 or $10 a person that we paid.
One thing when everyone starts moving and the kids dancing we did have some people try to squeeze in and sit at our table and they probably thought I was crazy when I politely asked them to move saying I paid for these seats and they weren't going to block me (it seemed we had extra space because the kids were on the dance floor at the time).
Al in all I will definitely book cat 1 for our next trip

So it sounds like the meet and greet is still available before the show, but through a typical "line" as any other meet n greet? We booked late and Cat. 1 is no longer available.

Also, can any Cat 2 people who have been answer this? Is it still "first come first serve" as far as seating goes other than the Cat 1 tables that are obviously reserved?

1) There are no reserved tables, other than few for the pricey Cat-1 people.
2) Basically, a stampede to grab a table/seat once you are let into the pavilion.
3) THINK: Cattle Call . . . MOOOOOO.

Thank You, when we did BBQ back in 2010, before Catergories I remember being seated? Maybe not... I will get there when Category 1 people do and wait, lol.
