Has anyone done MBYBBQ in Ft. Wilderness??

It sounds like a good place for the kids.. line dancing...entertainment..etc.

How's the food?? What's the show like?? Worth it??

BTW....where is it in Ft. W....by the HDD??

We went in 2003 and had a bad experience. The food was fine, no complaints. The problem was our kids were young, 2, 4 and 5 and I felt like when the characters came out it was like a free for all with kids all running up to the characters. I thought my little ones were going to be crushed. I like the character meals much better when you stay at your table and they come up and visit you. Much more relaxed and individual attention. Now we may just have had a bad experience as others have raved about the BBQ. I hate to be negative but its not cheap so I just wanted to let you know our experience.

I totally agree with you. We went in June '04 and our kids are shy. They took one look at all those other kids mobbing the characters and they just wanted to sit and watch. So, basically, we spent all that money for just the food, which was okay, but I would have preferred to eat at the 50's Primetime Cafe.

As far as location, it's located where River Country was in FW. This was our experience. I'm sure others have had positive experiences. Good luck.

I am sorry that the other 2 posts were negative. My experiences there were the opposite. We have been twice and thoroughly enjoyed it both times. The first time my kids were 4 and 7 and did just fine. The second time they were 5 and 8 and again, it was great. I understand how people can see it as a "free for all", as it can get a little nutty, however, that is why we like it so much. The kids have a lot of freedom, they are not confined to their seats. Also, you can sit anywhere you want, no assigned seats. I felt like it was crazy when the characters first came out, but after that it was fine. People started realizing that the characters were not going anywhere. They were there to mingle the whole time. Then they came around to all the tables also. The kids loved the dancing. The beer and wine were free flowing and the food was decent. My kids still talk about how much fun they have at the BBQ. It is located right behind the HDDR.
I think it just depends on your kids and how much they can handle. I can definately see a 2 or 3 yr. old getting pushed around by all the activity. You would need to be with them at all times.

We have ADRs for this. I have friends that went a coupl of years ago and absolutely loved it, and this particular friend is not one to freely brag on something unless it was good. Said the kids had a fabulous time. So I guess I'll find out.

My family did not like it.The food was awful. You could not eat the corn on the cob it was so under cooked. The food looked like it had been sitting out for hours and flies were landing on it.When the characters came out it was a free for all ,we were stunned. There were no lines for a picture or an autograph. This is held out side and I don't know what was worse the bug bits or the SMELL from the farm right next to us. Sorry I wish this was a nice experience but it was not.Not worth the money! :confused3

First, let me say that I am a huge Disney fan, and not a complainer. This I felt was the worst thing we have ever done at WDW, and we have been to WDW many times. Even my kids who have a good time at pretty much anything, (and don't complain) asked to leave early. They were at the time 5, 9 and 11. The food was very mediocre, and just felt like the whole thing was a glorified autograph session. I would switch the plans to the Hoop de Doo if I were you!

I loved it! Great character interaction with the kids, food was enjoyable..but with any buffet...by the time you get it back to the table it's colder than I like....You'll never know for sure unless you try it yourself...everyone has there own likes and dislikes....try it...it's not anymore expensive than any other dinner show at WDW!

For us it was just OK, we had our 2 DS's who were 12 & 7 at the time. We just didnt find anything special about the bar-b-que.

My dh, dd(3) and I did Mickey's BYBBQ in June, '05. It was our last night there, and we were tired! I had heard mixed reviews of it, and mainly picked it because I knew my dh would like to have a couple of beers and also because he someday wants to camp at FW - so I thought we could check out the place.

It was crowded, and I can see how some would call it a "free for all" - but we LOVED it. There were very organized lines to meet the characters and get autographs, and they did come around to the tables and mingle some, too. I liked the band and the dancing and the food was good. (We were one of the first in line, because of where we sat.) But the biggest thing that made us love it...and our Magical Moment of the trip...came after dinner. There had been some dancing time with the characters, and the hosts were asking everyone to go back and sit down at their tables. So as we were clearing the dancefloor, Tumbleweed Will (male host) came over to me (in this crowd of 600, why he picked me I'll never know!) and asked if my dd would like to meet Minnie. I said, "OF COURSE!!" He asked me her name and where we were from and then he took her hand and led her up on stage. Mickey & Minnie had selected a boy and girl to help them present the desserts while the band played, "If I knew you were comin' I'd-a baked a cake...." They introduced my dd and she and got to dance with Minnie, Mickey, Chip & Dale in front of everyone!!! I stood star-struck with tears in my eyes watching it all unfold. She has been totally Minnie crazy ever since! It absolutely MADE our whole week and MBYBBQ will always hold a special place in our hearts. I recommend it to all our friends, and even though some like it, some don't - we always will.
