Has anyone done these and how are they? I have never done either and was thinking about at least one of them for my next trip. I am staying at AKL how much of a problem will it to get there and back using the busses?

I would suggest the HDDR. It is a fun show and the entire family will enjoy it. The Backyard bbq is just a bbq, they do have a few characters and country music.

Probably the easiest thing to do is take the bus to MK and then board the FW boat. It will drop you off at the marina and Pioneer Hall is a short walk away.

Well I dont' know much about the transportation to HDDR but I can't say anything bad about it as far as the show goes. I've been there every year I was at Disney and I want to go back anytime I can. The actors/singers are extremely funny and you won't be bored for a minute! I highly recommend it for any age group.

Thanks. Can anyone tell me what kind of food and drinks they serve? (DH wondering what type of beer  ) Do they serve wine or something other than beer? We are not big drinkers, but like an occasional drink with our meal now and than.

I would recommend the HDDR. The show is funny, and the food is good. The only problem we had in October was with the server. We went 7 years ago when I was 30. It was great, they have draft (Coors Light I believe), and we had a jug of it. We went in October, I am now 37 and they ID'd me. I didn't have a drivers license with me, just our passports which were appropriately locked in the room safe. There I am with my husband and 12y old daughter (who looks just like me), and he is refusing to serve me as I have no photo id. Not that we are big drinkers at all, but I was looking forward to a cold included beverage on a really hot day. I look nowhere close to 21 (the drinking age). He said they have a strict policy that anyone looking under 30 had to show id. I look nothing like 30, but my stated age. I was the oldest in our serving area, and no one else had to show id. Weird.

Don't forget the id.

Backyard BBQ is BBQ chicken, hot dogs, potato salad, corn on the cob, watermelon....everything you would expect at a BBQ. They had draft beer, I am not really sure what kind it was though. They also have wine, nothing fancy, but it did come out of a bottle with a cork, not a screw top. Also had iced tea and sodas.

We've done both and HDDR is way more fun. I found Mickeys BBQ to be overcrowded and the seating is first come first serve. They had a line dancing lesson but the floor was so crowded there were kids getting knocked down! I also got eaten alive here. I second the idea of taking a bus to the Cont. and taking the launch from there to the FW boatdock. We've taken the bus and gone this way and it is much quicker to take the boat from the Cont.
