Hi Tootsietoo,
Mostly, this is a bump, since we haven't been in almost two years. When I went with my DH and DS, 18 months at the time, we weren't very happy. Much of it was expectations. It was DS's first trip and we'd planned several character meals. This sounded like fun. We didn't realize that there were so many people (hundreds, literally), that there would be lines for the characters when they were available (not much chance to interact), that we had to find seats on picnic benches (not easy if you weren't the first in) and that we would have to park our car and ride a bus to get there. We were frazzled when we finally did get there, disappointed with the atmosphere and upset that we had 'wasted' a precious evening of our Disney vacation on this.
Now, the food was fine, my son had a great time with the show (doesn't like it loud so sitting far far away was fine) and we all survived the evening. Looking back it was probably more the comparison to all the other character meals that made it a last choice for us. If you're at Fort Wilderness already, arrive early and know what you're getting into, it's probably a nice way to spend an evening.
Enjoy your planning!
