Mickey With a Musket

Why did they take all the signs down that had Mickey with the Musket?

I don't know if there has ever been an official Disney explanation as to why the Mickey with a musket logos have been disappearing but I don't expect to see them again.

bradisgoofy got it right. It was or is "Political INcorrectness" and is truly a shame. At one tme they considered not selling the "Toy Muskets" because of pressure from the anti gun people. I believe they also got rid of the "Target Range" in Frontierland because of that pressure but I cannot remember. Apparently, they just make too much money selling the Muskets or they would be gone too.

I have not been in "Pirates of the Caribean" for years now but I also heard they were considering taking out the "Ladies of the Night" who were chasing the pirates and some other "Politically Incorrect" stuff due to pressure from the "Politally INcorrect" crowd but I do not know if that has ever happened.

Walt has been turning over in his grave for some time now with the "Political INcorrectness" crap that has been going on at the Walt Disney World for years now. Truly a shame.:sad2:

Target range was alive and well in Frontierland last October, at least. Many years ago they rehabbed it so that it no longer shot pellets, but the reason was because the pellets were destroying the targets and required too much repainting.

Yea, target range in Frontierland I doubt is going anywhere, it's all in good fun. I've never even heard rumours of it being removed, so it's safe up to this point at least.

They changed the "Ladies of the Night" years ago at Pirates, they didn't remove them, but it used to be that the pirates were always chasing the ladies. Now in some of the scenes the ladies are chasing the pirates. That never really bothered me much, I always found it funnier that way than the original.

And yes, the musket was removed because Disney didn't like the image of Mickey holding a gun. Sounds stupid, but it's Disney just making sure it doesn't paint a big target (no pun intended) on it's head for some "investigative" journalist.

That's why the original entrance sign to the Fort is different now as well, if you notice he's not holding a gun there either. They got rid of that sign a few years ago. In fact, the original sign sold on EBay last year for around $10,000.00. They've been removing most of the Mickey holding a musket pictures for years now, pretty much all of it's gone (except for the above mentioned spots/pictures).

Glad to hear the shootin' range is still there. I just remembered it being closed down last time I was there and back then there was all the talk about "Guns" at Disney (even though they were toys) so I assumed they closed it down. They must have compromised and decided a little history would be okay to remove and took the Musket from Mickey.

I do remember talk about removing those "Pirate" scenes completely because of some politically incorrect people again complaining about what the "Ladies of the Night" represented but that was years ago. Glad to see they did not cow down to that request either.

Man, looks like I need to visit the Kingdom again soon!

They never actually shut down the rifle range because of the guns, if it was closed down they were probably just refurbishing it. At least not what I know of :)

Me Too!!!!!!

DH is a cop and long stresses the thought that "guns don't kill people....stupid people do". PC makes him EXTREMELY PO!!

I agree totally. It is the stupid that people who kill people. It is not the people that legally carry guns with a concealed handgun permit. I am very careful each and every time tht I carry my gun. Maybe if the world wasn't so messed up, I wouldn't feel the need to protect myself.

Wow! I didn't realize that the sign went on ebay. I wonder who has it? What a cool collectable!

They did switch the pirate scene around a few years ago. The pirates used to be chasing after the ladies. They switched it so that the ladies were chasing after the pirates trying to chase them out of the town.
