Hi,
Does anybody know what happened to the Mickey Statues in Boston. I went on Saturday, the 19th and there were only 3 in Quincy Market and 3 at the Aquarium. The 3 at Quincy market were inside a stairwell and were the cop, a radio disney one and the lobster. The 3 that were at the aqurium were the Mambo one, a pizza one and the Annette Funicello one. The cop had its arm broken off, you could see the part where they glued it back on. So was just curiouse what happened to the other 9. Was a little disappointed that they weren't there.

Thanks for any help.

Hi,
Thanks for answering, that's what I thought had happened to them. I thought I had read on here that they would be put back out.

Thanks

I can't believe someone would do such a thing! Does anyone know if they are being fixed and put back out?? I imagine they wouldn't be but one could hope. That's so sad someone would do that! I just hope they can fix them so they can auction them off next year.

Does anyone remember the link for the tour schedule? I can't seem to find it anywhere

I had not seen them. Were they like the fiberglass "Cods" a few years ago that were made by the artists at Mass Art. I was taking a graduate course there over the summer and the Cods were outstanding. It cost 2000.00 just to cast them. Anyone remember Keith Lockcod? Or the one made by then tv personality Dixie Wacodly (Watley). I really do not understand the thrill that these cretins get from destroying and vandalizing. I hope the M M's come back.

Excerpts from article by Rebecca Ann Markway for Knight Ridder News, published in Boston Globe Sunday June 27, 2004

"Pandamania, 150 urethane-based panda [statue]s each whimsically painted by Washington [DC] area artists, hit the streets about amonth ago and, so far, vandals have struck eight of the pandas, said Alexandra J. MacMaster, program specialist for the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities.

"... Compared with the similar Party Animals project two years ago, the panda vandalism is not as severe. Of the eight cases of vandalism, three were from graffiti, the others had parts broken or pieces stolen.

"... The commission will remove the pandas at the end of September and auction them in October. ... Artists were paid a $1,500. stipend and some agree that the exposure was more important than the money."

Comparable to the Mickey Insp-ear-ations, these statues are about 5 feet tall, and they are personified standing and sitting panda figures.

I was fortunate to actually see 13 of the 15, just because I happened to be there on May 22.

I went back 2 weeks later and 8 of the 15 were being repaired! I was SO furious and embarrassed that this happened in Boston. Of course, not really surprised seeing as they were just scattered about Faneuil Hall with NO security or anything else.

I posted something a while back because I was wondering if the same was happening in the other cities or just ours:mad: .

Maybe they will be replacing them with donkeys for the convention. You can bet your you know what that they would have one to one security for that. Then again unless you are actually going to the convention, there is no way to actually get to that area. Thank God I will be in Orlando during this fiasco.

Yesterday (Sat. 7/11) I looked for the missing statues and they were not back yet. It is possible they were relocated to other scattered areas such as hotel lobbies, but no information so far.

I was a little dissapointed in the statues. I saw a few in Boston over Memorial day weekend. But these did not have the did-it-themselves look that the other promotions had(ie. Cow parade in New York City, Fish out of water in Baltimore, Guitars in Cleveland). They looked like they were all painted and glazed over as if they were just copies of the original designs. I was expecting to see the rough hand=made look of the original artists. I think that is what makes these types of promotions.

I think all these promotions are neat but, having been fortunate to see different ones in different cities, I did find that most of the cities had problems with vandalism.....I don't know what gets into people...but it does seem to be a problem.

The NEw York city cow parades are now being reprduced into collectiblbe figures...does anyone know if Disney is looking to do the same? And would anyone know if the Baltimore promotion Fish Out of Water was done as a collectible. My family had a great time at that promotion....we walked around the city till we saw and photographed every one.....it took awhile there were over 100.

Did ANYONE see the Cods when they were there??? They were great. Especially Keith Lockcod.
