ok I have most of the parts I need to make my lamp post. I have admired these for the last few years. Im finally going to give it a shot! The only thing is I haven't bought theelectrical parts yet. Thats the part that scares me a little (a lot)

I was gonna tell you to go two blocks down , turn left, then a right at the next stop sign, and third house on the right. You'll find it in his front yard,,but I'd wait til after they are asleep to take it.:thumbsup2

I recently heard from kaguilbeau who is following my instructions to make a Mickey lamp.

She has found the two "hard to find" parts at Home Depot's online store.

Here's the link for the 12" globe:

And here's the link for the globe fitter:

(disneychk - the globe fitter is the electrical part that scares you! - No need to be scared!)

This should help those of you anxious to build a lamp.

Once again, if you would like a copy of my detailed instructions simply send me a PM including your e-mail address.

My lamp has illuminated ears and a stable "tip proof" base. It looks like this:

I'd just like to add that I am/was very unsure of the electrical parts also.

I looked at Home Depot and Lowes and couldn't find the 12". I had no idea what aisle the globe fitter would be on. I ordered these from Home Depot.

Gary was great in reassuring me that what I had selected was the right thing to get.

Reading through the thread with the various instructions shows that there are so many ways to do this. You could deviate and make it however you like.

I've found a relative that will help me with some of the electrical parts over Thanksgiving. So that gives me some reassurance. Heck, if I wait for DH to come out of the woods from hunting long enough to help - I'll be waiting a long time!

Trust Cruiser; he knows what he's talking about. He made our Mickey lamp and a few more for friends.

If you'd like to see the epic tale of men acting manly doing electrical work, check out my blog post: Birth of a Mickey Lamp. I helped too; I took pictures of them doing it. ;)

Thanks RoguePony,

It was fun to chuckle at your blog again!

that is the part that was scaring me! How did you know? Well I just finished my shift at f/t job and now i am at my p/t for a double shift (48 hours) and I am no where near a hardware store to pick one up. So come on Friday mornin!!! I am anxious to get it done now. Thanks for the help, and
I loved the Birth Of A Mickey lamp!

Just a word of warning, the globe fitter is hard to find. I've looked for them in over 25 Home Depots and only ever seen them in 2. I've never seen one in Lowe's.

So you might just want to buy the 12" globe and the globe fitter online.

The rest of the parts are easy to locate.

Awe crap! I have ordered the globe and its should be here in the next day or so, I guess I will have to order the globe fitter now too. Thanks for the heads up
