I printed off the directions from several sites and I did a search at the top for Mickey Lamp Post. I read all the threads but I don't see one that is recent.

I'm wondering if someone has done this recently and about what the total cost was for making one. I would have no idea how to make one so I asked a friend to look over the directions. He said it looks like about $150.00 in parts and is charging me $30 an hour (he thinks it will take about three hours). So it looks like my total will be around $240.

Is this about what you spent on yours (minus the labor if you did it yourself)? Is there someone who makes these and sales them like the person who does the Mickey Fort Wilderness Signs?

Thanks so much for the info.

Allison

Sounds like a high cost to me, but if you lack the tools, skills, etc, you may have to pay someone to help. I don't know of anyone who makes them for sale. They're all individual and often reflect the special touches of the maker.

I made mine a couple of years ago, I followed instructions from Cdn Cruiser and it worked out great.

I bought all of the materials at Home Depot in Orlando because the Canadian stores don't carry it. Total cost at home depot was about $90 but I got some other stuff too, the lamp was likely less than $60 and that included the hole saw I didn't have. Total cost will also depend on how elaborate you want to make things like the base.

The entire project took me about 2 hours to complete.

We went to Home Depot showed them what we wanted to make they helped us with everything. We got a lamp post kit, a lighting kit, 3 plastic globes, a wooden flower pot and some cement total cost around 70! Took longer for cement to dry then building it ;0)

My husband is just finishing up a Mickey Lamp Post, we plan to take with us to FW on May 25th. We read all the posts and he just winged it. We had to order our 12" globe off of Ebay because our Home Depot didn't have any. When it is all said and done we will have spent about $150.00 on ours. We tweaked the design some. We wanted a arm on our post to display a sign with our family name on it. And a led color changing light bulb. And we went with a refillable umbrella stand for the base. You can either put water, sand or peat gravel in it for the weight. We plan to post some pictures as soon as it's completely done.:yay:
