Mickey Bars-Peanut and nut-free?

My DD8 is severely allergic to peanuts and tree nuts. Does anyone know if the Mickey Bars are peanut- and tree nut-free? On our last trip to WDW, they were not, but I've heard rumours that they are now. She will be over the moon if she can have one of those each day!

My son is also allergic to peanuts. He had them over the summer and on the cruise. I don't remember them being unsafe for peanut allergy. I know he always has them on the cruise.

If you go to the disABILITIES FAQs thread, in post #3, there are some links and other information, including contact information for diet/allergies.
The safest thing would be to contact WDW before you go. It's best to do that before every trip because what is safe one trip may not necessarily be safe next trip.

i'm sorry to say that i just returned and i did not give my youngest ds who has peanut & tree nut allergies mickey pops because they had coconut oil in them. i know coconut is on the list of tree nuts, so isn't the oil unsafe too (or did my poor son miss out on the yummy pops?!?!?). the mickey ice cream sandwiches were safe so we usually stuck with those or the fruit bars.

On a trip (not the last one, but the one before - years and years ago!) we got Mickeyhead ice creams, and there was a piece of peanut in the chocolate covering - but this was years ago. I'm only mentioning it because the piece was easy to see - looked like Mickey had a pimple. I broke it off, and saw that it was peanut.

Discuss this with your doctor. Coconut, the seed of a drupaceous fruit, has typically not been restricted in the diets of people with tree nut allergy. However, in October of 2006, the FDA began identifying coconut as a tree nut. The available medical literature contains documentation of perhaps six cases of allergic reaction to coconut; none occur in people with allergy to other tree nuts. Ask your doctor if you need to avoid coconut.

I will add that William is touch allergic to peanut and also allergic to tree nuts and we do *not* avoid coconut.

We were just at WDW and from the latest info I had the Mickey Bars are safe - it is true that they did not used to be safe. He had them with no problems. I do HIGHLY suggest that you do as Sue suggested and contact Brenda (info in the FAQ) for the latest info before you go - it could always change.

Hi! I'm glad to hear that the Mickey bars only have coconut oil b/c then I will allow my 2 kids who have peanut allergies to eat them. They have eaten coconut oil for years with no problem. However, I have to say that that story of the hidden peanut "pimple" scares the hell out of me. I believe that since the pp said it was years ago that a lot has changed since food allergies have become so prevalent. Needless to say, I will be inspecting those bars before anyone takes a bite!!!!!
Did anyone see a warning about "traces of peanut" on it?

Before our trip last year I contacted Brenda Bennett. At that time she told me that the manufacturer had recently changed it's production of Mickey bars, so they were safe for peanut/tree nut allergic people. It's always a good idea to double-check the ingredients on the package. You never know when a manufacturer might decide to change things again.

I've been dealing with a severe tree nut allergy since I was 4 years old. I never tried coconut just in case. I try to be very careful and yet not cause a scene or disrupt anyone ele's life.
However let me tell you I dont care what's written in any medical books...i am allergic to coconut. I found that out at 18 when i was in college. I borrowed someone else's shampoo, which we later realized had natural coconut oil in it. Just between the smell of her hair in the next stall and it on my air...I passed out cold, completely naked! Waking up to a bunch of ppl standing over me and realizing i was naked and wheezing baddly...not fun! Don't try it at home!
