Michelin Star Restauants

Yes, actually it was awarded to a small chain of Chinese restaurants (2 Michelin stars IIRC), ate at one in the Philippines, can't remember the name right now

They started giving Michelins stars only a few years ago here in Vancouver. I went to one restaurant shortly before it got it’s star ( one star). I have been to several of the “ Michelin Recommended “ and “ Bib Gourmand “ ones on the list.

I haven't. The only one I could ever see myself doing is Victoria & Albert's. I have watched some video reviews of it and a freind of mine who is a self-proclaimed "foodie" always wanted to try it. Maybe someday, but it's so expensive!

Just two.

We tried Faro in Brooklyn 2019 and it was wonderful but they’ve since closed. I believe it was one star.

This past June we tried Antica Osteria Cera which is near Venice Italy. Holy moly this was incredible! By far the most outstanding meal I’ve ever attended. Mind blowing really. Will probably end up the #1 best meal of my whole life 😂

I might have eaten at a place that lost its only Michelin star years ago. But for the most part I don't typically want to spend that kind of money. A lot of these restaurants find that chasing or keeping the star(s) is maddening as the reviewers can often have a different idea of what fine dining is than the people running restaurants.

That being said, if I come across a lot of money, I want to go to the French Laundry.

I went to a Michelin Recommended restaurant in Krakow at the beginning of this month. I was with my aunt and her friend. We all had 40-day aged steaks with sides. I had oysters and we had dessert and drinks. The bill came to about $150, including a tip. Poland is VERY affordable.

Yep. The hubs and I have been to multiple between Napa, Hong Kong and Chicago.

If you truly appreciate fine dining and the skills needed at these restaurants, I highly recommend you find one that you REALLY want to try, splurge it once and see it for yourself. I won't tell just everyone and anyone to do that because if you don't know how to appreciate them, it doesn't matter they are $100 or $1000. I will be very honest about the cost, it's not cheap. However, if you understand the skills, knowledge and techniques that are required to produce the food at these establishments, and also the true cost of running a restaurant that makes money, they are worth it and, in some cases, I think they are actually very reasonable.

Tips if you don't want to spend $1K+ (average for 2 adults), and you are able to travel abroad, I recommend researching michelin star restaurants overseas. You will often find them cheaper than the U.S. Some of them even offer lunch service and they are most likely with less courses but also less expensive than dinner. So that's a good way to get a taste without spending a lot.

It's a classic michelin! You can't go wrong with TFL if you like French cuisine with some Californian influences. Thomas Keller's famous Oyster and Pearls....I would pay to just eat that again! 🤤🤤😍

I've driven by when I was in Yountville, but spending that kind of money for me is tough to justify unless I suddenly come into money.

But Thomas Keller has more affordable options. I read somewhere that he says he'll even just go to a taco truck in Yountville that's popular with local restaurant and vineyard workers. I've bought stuff at Bouchon Bakery in Vegas and Yountville. Food is good. It's not cheap, but spending $6 on a pastry is something that most people can afford. It justifiably has long lines in Yountville. The Vegas locations are kind of odd though, where the quality is just as good but I suppose there are a lot of options in Vegas.

Alinea near Chicago - tremendous experience - would recommend to do at least once. $400 per person - book well in advance!

I’ve eaten at Trente Trois (a one star I think) in Paris and years ago I ate at another one in Paris but I don’t remember the name.

I live near NYC and have eaten at about a dozen in NY, Ireland, England, Chicago and I guess V&A counts now. Alinea, Per Se, and Le Bernadin have been my favorites. My husband and I try to do one a year for our wedding anniversary or birthday.
