And this, gadies and lentlemen, is the power of political "spin"

Al Gore never claimed to have "invented the internet". Not once. Read below from Snopes.com. This claim is patently false, yet republicans to this day try to make a farce of the ex VP by repeating it over and over until those too gullible to look up the information themselves take it as gospel

When you make those kinds of statements, it becomes obvious that you could care less about the truth...only about furthering your own agenda.

personal attack aside...what is my agenda...what is my political affiliation....???

so basically you're saying that if someone disagrees with you...they are gullible and haven't taken the time to look up the facts......

what makes your sources any more credible than mine....

that way of thinking speaks volumes..

I'd give more credibility to your words if it weren't for the eye rolling like a teenager...

1 - you didn't cite a source, you regurgitated the same thing that Rush Limbaugh and those that think like him have been saying since the 2000 election, and it was wrong then just as it is now.

2 - I have no idea what your political affiliation is. I DO know that you posted a comment slandering the former VP, and that comment was proveably false.

3 - I wasn't "rolling my eyes like a teenager", I was reacting to a lie that has been told so many times that it's taken on a life of it's own.

As for thinking someone is gullible for disagreeing with me, I don't. I do, however, have little respect for anyone that, when faced with obvious proof that they are wrong, decide to attack the person providing the proof rather than reconsidering their position.

Now, wait. Didn't you just agree a few posts back? :rotfl:

And how did this topic turn to public education?

You're right it is a ridiculous argument.....But neither three circles nor I were the ones that began it.

There are roughly 150,000 troops currently in theater.....I'm just shocked that some people are trying to parse words to make a very big deal out of a very minor misstatement on my part. :hyper:

Why are we arguing about the numbers on here? I haven't read all of the posts?:D

I suppose you have little respect for yourself then since you called me names not the other way around....

as for the eye rolling.... raising 3 teenagers I've read quite a few books on psychology and adolescent behaviour, many have referenced eye rolling as a disrespectful, childish behaviour,, but I guess it's not factual since I didn't read it at snopes...

Ah, stating your opinion as fact, Brenda? How unlike you. Oh, wait... Nevermind.

Opinion? Where was that? Facts are facts TC - or did you never learn the difference between singular and plural?

Sorry to disappoint you but apparently unlike you, I am not a product of the public school system.

No fair!! ;)

I'm a product of Florida public schools, and I'm still able to distinguish plural from singular!

So I guess 150,000 is nothing to some Bush supporters here. Just think........only 50,000 more and you can rightfully say "hundreds of thousands". Oh boy, can't wait.

Well, it turned to education when you mentioned we check with a math professor.

And I'll ask that you read my comment closely. "While you MAY be technically correct", means you're wrong but to continue to argue that point with you would be infantile. The phrase, "can't see the forest for the trees" comes to mind.

Just one man's opinion.

It's the same old story. They are running from their record by trying to nit-pick the opposing sides arguments aparts.

Of course 150,000 is nothing. Just ask Brenda!

Yeah. Run with that one.

Really? How do you feel about Senator John Kerry?

There's a difference between Bush's support of the SAUDIS and Kerrys support of lifting a trade embargo. It's a little thing called Al Queda.::yes::

Well, you're certainly right about one thing...It DOES indicate a lack of respect for the other person's opinions.....Can't IMAGINE why I might have directed that at a person who, when shown that they are wrong or lying about something, gets mad and attacks the person that did so.

I haven't "called you names" other than saying that you were apparently gullible enough to swallow that "Gore invented the internet" story without bothering to find out the truth. Sorry, but that does make you "gullible", if you really believed that a man as intelligent as Al Gore would say something that idiotic and proveably untrue. At least that's the way I see it.

Hey...it just occurred to me why you didn't like Gore...It was because he rolled his eyes at Dubya's stupid comments during last election's debates, wasn't it :hyper: C'mon...you can admit it.....

Ah poor TC, you couldn't be right about something if your life depended on it. :rotfl:

Please reference the following post by me:

The impact of having 150,000 troops in-theater is enough without embellishing the numbers to make it seem like there are twice as many as there really are.

So, it is your opinion that nit-picking is not a valid thing to do? What does that do to all of your arguments about what Bush has said in the past?

Those who say Bush doesn't come off as sounding intelligent, by the standards you have set here, could make the same claim - it is nit-picking. Even so, it is also correct.

As for Brenda being wrong in this one - no, on this one she is correct. "Hundreds of Thousands" is plural, and is not correct to be presented to less than 150,000. Yes, it is still a significant number, but it is not hundreds. There is a huge difference in the two.

OK first I don't lie..I can find as many sources backing me up as you can....second when and where did I attack you.....you called names and continue to do so

Sorry, but that does make you "gullible", if you really believed that a man as intelligent as Al Gore would say something that idiotic and proveably untrue. that just showed a lack of maturity on his part

one more fact..if a person hears or reads something, and believes and repeats it..that does not make them a liar...perhaps you need to look up the definition of liar as well

I guess that puts those that believe this right up there with those libs that refuse to acknowledge that Reagan never said that ketchup was a veggie, does it? Nahh, they wouldn't facts get in the way of their argument!
