Well just going by the ads when they first came out. Showed kids on brooms following Harry. Remember too when Harry first flys on his broom he says something like come on and then you swoop down through various scenes, also on the Quidditch field etc?

I felt that the piece on the seat, how do I put this delicately, ummm that fits between your knees or thighs (depending how tall you are) may have just been there for that broom sensation? More like the vacumn cleaner that Kathy Najimy rode in Hocus Pocus.
In a pinch, whatever is in the cleaning closet will suffice.
