MGM and Downtown Disney

Is there a way to go from Downtown Disney to MGM or vice versa on the buses without stoping at a resort first? Thinking about dinner before or after Fantasmic show and was trying to see if it would be necessary to back to the hotel and catch another bus OR if it would be easier to just drive (I will have a car)...

There are 3 ways to get to DTD from MGM:

1) Go to a resort first, then get a bus.

2) Drive yourself.

3) Take a cab.
