We've ridden MFSR multiple times during several visits since GE opened. On the occasion that I was the "altitude" pilot, there was a moment right at the beginning when I thought we were "taking off" so, naturally, I pulled back on the stick.

My son, who was manning the lateral pilot controls, was screaming "NO, NO, NO" at me. Being more adept at video games, he apparently spotted the ship that was rising in front of us and that the canyon below was the correct path.

Having watched about a dozen POV videos for MFSR, it seems that EVERYone runs into that ship at the beginning. I'm guessing it's a similar instinctive reaction if you don't know that the first sequence has you diving into a canyon vs. heading for space. Now that I know what I think we're "supposed" to do, I think I'll be able to avoid it next time. But I'm curious how many of you out there have successfully avoided that first ship? If so, how soon do you start descending in order to avoid still hitting the bottom of the ship?

Thanks!

I was lucky enough to have a perceptive copilot like your boy on my second flight, and have been running that canyon since. You need to start the descent as Hondo is telling you to “push the stick to fly down”

Almost certainly my imagination, but it seems that a sense of urgency (pushing the controls HARD) seems to have an effect.

We're hoping to ride this for the first time in a few weeks. I have two 12-year-old boys that are fairly adept video game players (as many are) - should one/both of them be the pilot(s)? Or DH, who, I would imagine, do the instinctive reaction described above? I'm guessing that waits will be ridiculous the week we go, so I can't count on more than one ride on this and I don't want to crash right off the bat. LOL

Let the boys do the flying. The other two roles are pretty underwhelming, so just smash the button and enjoy the kids.
