Mexico Resturants?

We have never eaten in Mexico before but we would like to, however we are concerned about spiciness about the food. ( If you know what I mean!) Thanks!!

We have eaten at San Angel Inn back in 2009 and it was very good. Not overly spicey. Although the salsa was HOT. But have heard it is a different salsa since then.
SAI serves more traditional dishes than the tex mex we are used to here in the states (except for along the border). So make sure you look at the menu.

As for the other mexico restaurant. La Hacinda...haven't eaten there.

La Hacienda did have a spicy dish... we loved it but it was the fish for 2 skillet. Delicious but it had some kick to it!

I had the tilapia dish at La Hacienda, it has some spice to it, but was not hot-spicy.

I am extremely wimpy when it comes to Mexican spiciness. When you order, ask what the blandest dishes are (both restaurants were very helpful with ordering lightly spiced foods.) Hubby and I got the meat platter for two at La Hacienda...several of the items on that were too spicy for me, but there was enough I could eat. At San Angel, I was able to get the steak...had to skip about 1/2 the veggies/sides on the plate as too hot for me. But again, there was enough I could eat to be fine (and hubby enjoyed my "too spicy" stuff.) The salsa at both places was too spicy for me, but I enjoyed the warm chips plain. Love the sangria pitcher at San Angel, and the mojitos at La Hacienda.

I was going to get a counter service there but I too cannot have spicy food. Dang!!

I think one poster brought up a good point, San Angel is definitely more authentic Mexican food, and not the Americanized Mexican chain restaurant food we are used too. Its been a few years since were ate there, but I did not find the food too spicy. DH doesn't care for spicy and enjoyed his food. But we did realize that we kind of like the Tex Mex style (AKA Chevy's, Don Pablos, etc. for anyone who has those chains around them) over actual authentic Mexican food, go figure. I will note, the ambiance of San Angel is awesome and that alone is worth trying this place at least once, maybe lunch, its a COOL break from the heat and its instant night time, very fun.

Where is La Hacienda? I love Mexican food, but am not familiar with this Disney restaurant...

It is the new Mexico restaurant located OUTSIDE in front of the Mexico pavilion...it is an open-air, covered restaurant that is located on the edge of the lagoon...

Are you thinking of the CS restaurant in the Mexico pavilion? I was just at La Hacienda and it was not "open-air". There were windows.

Ate at both restaurants last month and the food was a bit bland. I do not like spicy either so was shocked that it was so bland!!! It was good though!!!

I love spicy foods but our meal at La hacienda had my mouth aflame! I had to surrender the shrimp tacos to my husband because I could not eat them.

We have been to SAI three times, the first two the food was the perfect spice. This last time in Feb 11 the food was overly spicy...and the people eating next to us commented on it as well

i cant handle spicy food at all, and i loved the food at mexico...both indoor and outdoor
