Metrolink question

11 more days til we arrive in California, YEA!!!! I still haven't figured out all of my transportation issues though. I have thought all along that I would take the Grayline Disneyland Express from LAX to the HoJo upon arrival. However, today I was on LAX's website and it mentioned that you can take the Greenline to Anaheim. Has anyone ever done this? It seems that would be a little cheaper. I guess if we add in a cab at the Metro station to get to the HoJo I am not sure if it would be worth it or not.

Also, can you take the Metro to Hollywood? Any pros or cons to using this form of transportation versus one of the bus shuttles. We are wanting to go see Jimmy Kimmel live on 9/8 at 6pm. And get there a lot earlier than that so we could walk around, check out the stars, El Capatain, Disney Soda fountain, etc. I noticed the last trip back to Anaheim is around 7 or 8 pm. So, again, I am not sure how this all works out.

Thanks for your help!!!

Metro isnt very direct. Yes, you can take them but i think you may get lost more if you do... LA is a very big and complicated City...

If you go up to hollywood, its simply easier if you drive up there... or if your just going to CityWalk/Universal Studios, they have a shuttle for that...

but its entirely up to you...

I don't know anything about taking the Green Line from LAX, but you can take the Flyaway (costs $7 one way) from LAX to Union Station, and from there you can connect with the Metrolink train. (fares vary; usually around $7 one way) From the Fullerton station you can take an OCTA bus to Disneyland...you can use your Metrolink ticket to transfer, and it takes 10 to 15 minutes to getto the Park.

You can take an L.A. city bus (Route 460) from Disneyland's front entrance to Union Station, and then transfer to the Red Line & go directly to Hollywood & Highland where the Disney Soda Fountain (and the Chinese Theater, Walk of Fame, etc) are. It does take a couple of hours each way, though, and you have to catch the 460 back to Disneyland from downtown L.A., which you may or may not be comfortable with (I'm an L.A. native living in AZ for right now, so it's "No Big Deal" to me but some people might not be cool with it). Total one way fare is around $3.75 ($2.50 for 460 bus + $1.25 for Red Line).

Just got back from a 3 week trip to CA in which I relied on public transport to get to/from the Park (and most everywhere else), so I can vouch that it's do-able.

If you need more info, there's a trip planner feature at http://www.metro.net . You can type in your start/finish points & the times you need to leave/arrive :thumbsup2

Have fun on your trip!!!

I appreciate your help. It does sound very complicated. I have traveled by train in a lot of cities (and Europe) and it has never seemed that complicated. I am wondering if it is even worth trying to get up to Hollywood.

Thanks again.

IMO, using the Metro to get to Hollywood is only worth it if you stay the night there...otherwise, most of the day is taken up by bus/train rides!

I'm casting my vote for the FlyAway to Union Station and a train!

I take a Metrolink train from Union Station to the Anaheim Station [and back] every single day- and I love it! It's not complicated at all!

It's $14.25 roundtrip AND there is a bus that will pick you up at the station and drop you off right in front of the Park- and that connection is FREE if you took the train. The return trip back tis also free if you get on outside the Park and ride to the station.

The only downside is that its a train that runs during regular commuter times- so it runs early in the morning and stops at 5:30p. BUT! I think if you plan on being at the Park at 9a, and then stay overnight in the Resort and head back the next morning- its perfect!

Also, I love using the other Metro lines for getting around in LA. It's easy peasy!

I personally like to stay away from the buses, only because it seems like for the most part, it does eat up a lot of time.

Hope this helps a little! And good luck!

Lorealle,
Thanks so much for explaining how easy it is. I will give it a shot. And I will see you at the HoJo next Friday!
:yay:
