I'm looking at going to DLR at the beginning of Thanksgiving week. There are still decent prices on airfare to LAX, which I know is farther away. Most of the transportation options from LAX to DLR are just too high. I would take the Disneyland Express bus, except my departure time would be super early in the morning, when they aren't running. I looked into rental cars, but with parking and underage expenses (I'm 23 :/), it would be just as expensive as other options.

Anyone ever used/tried the Metro to/from the airport? I know it would take quite a bit longer, but significantly cheaper. Any other options besides the ones I've mentioned and SuperShuttle, etc.?

I know people who've taken the Metro. It's doable, and if the other options are too expensive, then you can do it. Take the bus to Downtown Los Angeles Union Station, and then whichever line (surfliner, metrolink, etc) that will take you to the Anaheim Station. You can then take the ART from there.

Instead of going to Union Station you can catch the shuttle to the Metro Green Line and take that all the way to the Norwalk Station and then switch to Metro Bus 460 to Disneyland. The whole trip should take about 2.5 hours. I've never done that myself but know of people that take Bus 460 with no problems.

Metro/OCTA/Amtrak/Metrolink Mass Transit Options are available...

These Options can roughly get you to LAX-Disneyland for $15-$20 per person.
Call it the scenic route. Can checkout Downtown LA and Hollywood.

Secret NOTE: If you do take this scenic route, you do have the option
of visiting Disney's El Capitan Theatre and Ghiradelli/Disney Store in
Hollywood (and Highland). Ghiradelli Shop used to be called Disney's
Soda Fountain. Take Metro Red Line from Downtown LA Union Station.

How early are you thinking of flying in? The shuttles start running around 8 am or so I think so if you only had an hour or so to kill maybe you could even wait and have coffee at the airport- by the time you waited an hour or so it would still get you to Disney around the same time. If it's really that early I would look into Uber- it's cheap and easy.

Google maps has a public transportation search that will give you directions from point A to point B, including walking directions to/from stops. and you can set arrival and departure times to figure out what routes will be an option for your flight arrival time. But I'd try to save some additional money elsewhere are take a shuttle. Public transportation will be upwards of 2 hours 45 minutes with multiple transfers with not much savings compared to a shared van with a coupon.

My arrival to LAX isn't the problem. In fact, I could take the Disneyland Express to DLR for $30 one way which isn't bad. That may end up being the route I choose.

My issue is in getting back to the airport to leave. My departure would be at 5:55 am. I may just need to head back that way the night before, but I want to maximize park time, while also staying safe.

Thanks!! This looks really neat. It would take away some park time, but it sounds awesome. Are these options safe at night/early morning? Is that an option?

I hadn't thought about looking for coupons. Thanks!

I think I could take the DL Express one way and a shuttle the other way with a coupon. Might be the cheapest, most efficient method.

Check out PrimeTime Shuttle. I believe you can get it for ~$15 each way..... they are reliable and good.

Just a note that going to Hollywood is not really a scenic route as it takes you away from Disneyland. This would be better done as a separate trip.

A friend of mine took the metro from Disneyland to Hollywood without any issues, however, she was very uncomfortable riding back to Disneyland in the evening by herself. I think that early morning and daytime would be fine, however I would not recommend that you be riding it when it starts getting dark.

Thanks. I think I'm going to forgo the metro since others have given some cheaper shuttles. The Hollywood expedition sounds cool though!

I haven't...I've never taken Uber. Is it generally safe? I'd probably be alone, so I'm a little more hesitant.

It's as safe as a cab. The drivers are all background-checked, and you can see any reviews passengers have left about the drivers (the drivers also rate the passengers). I have a friend who drives for Uber in LA and he LOVES it.

But I'd still use Karmel. ;)
