Metro Detroit Disers from about 20? years ago

Inspired by the "what is that that washed up on the beach" thread, I was thinking about our "discoveries" or sightings.

Do any of you remember the LIGER? I forget where he escaped from, but remember being in hysterics every morning when one of the radio stations (I think 96.3?) would do Liger sightings, starting off with the Mutual of Omaha, Wild Kingdom music.

I faintly remember something about the East side/Sterling Heights area, and a deli.

Anyone? Was it found? Did they find out where it escaped from? Did he really prefer deli meat? LOL

Hmmmm.....I don't remember the liger.

I do remember all the panther sightings. My aunt moved to rural Milford in the 80's and I was always a little nervous when we would visit. She was way out in the boonies and had lots of woods surrounding her house. I was always afraid my dog was going to get eaten, LOL!

I forgot all about the Liger. It was in the Sterling Heights area. There were sightings less than a mile from where I lived. I remember being scared to let our little dog outside. I thought for sure she would be eaten I don't remember what ever happend to the liger. I will have to call my parents later and ask if they remember any details.

Trenton, Michigan..I lived there from 1961-1984..I remember hearing of a Liger, not necessarily running loose in Michigan. I may have left the area by then..


Still cravin' that OPA!!! though...

WOW, Maybe I was in HS for the Liger? Man, time flies!

I'm putting my best guess at summer 84, then, as that would put it with being with my now husband.

I grew up just outside of Milford. I totally believe we do have panthers in Michigan. I think they are more afraid of us than we are of them.

What I remember about the Liger sightings the most was the Wild Kingdom music they'd play in the morning right before they'd do the "sightings" report.

All I am getting on google is people in Detroit with the name LIGER in their online name, sightings but as distant memories, and the old tiger v lion debate.

Darn it. I KNOW it happened and I need something more scholarly than a memory, which is all I have!
