I hope I am not redundant, my last post does not seem to appear here. Anyway, my husband broke his leg last May and had several pieces of metal installed! Will this set off the alarms at the airport? Anyone ever heard of this?
Friends of our said that we need a note from the doctor!
Anyone help here would be appreciated!
One more thing to do!

Both my parents have had knee replacements & they set off the airport security. They do have some documents from the Dr indicating they have replacements.

My husband has a piece of metal in his ankle... And yes he sets off the alarm each and every time!! We have never had a medical note for this though... I would think it would not be a bad idea, but they still will search him thoroughly... :)

Hope this helps...

It's probably better to get a note from his MD, just to be on the safe side.
(My DH shattered his elbow several years ago, and has metal in it still from the surgery. He has never had a problem setting off any alarms - in fact until now I never thought about it! )

My husband has a titanium plate and 7 screws in his knee, sometimes he sets off the metal detector and sometimes he doesn't. We have never had a note from our doctor nor has anyone ever asked. In the past they have just taken him to the side and done a scan w/a wand, he has also raised his pant leg for them to see - it is obvious from the the scarring that he has knee problems.

My Mom has had both her hips replaced and sets off the detectors every time. She even has a note indicating that she's had hip replacement surgery but the TSA has always disregarded this and she always sent to secondary screening. HTH

I have Titanium wires placed in my upper back, and have been through hospital metal detectors and airport metal detectors, and have been "wanded" only once to my recollection. Maybe it is the particular type of metal that is in the "repair" or perhaps it is the thickness of the metal? Titianium wire is pretty thin (I imagine; it doesn't show on the MRI so that is probably why they used that particular metal on me) and I guess contains no iron. It would probably depend upon the technology when the "repair" was done.

My nephew has 2 metal plates in his ankle -full dislocation & breakage of all bones - w/plenty of screws. Depending on the thickness of his socks -- he sets them off.

He travels with a Dr's note - gives it to the TSA person (who can feel the plates) - but the also wand him too.

Thanks again for everyones imput. I think I will call tomorrow and ask for that note! :wave2:
