Hi all

I had posted questions about my knee on the CB. Responses have me VERY nervous that this is going to be a long-term concern. Short version is due to taking a heavy impact straight onto my knee, I now have a torn meniscus and ligament. I find out tomorrow if my case is surgical and part of me is hoping it is because from what I've been reading that'll heal faster.

I'm going to the World in May, and starting to get a little nervous about that. I'm sure I'll be off crutches by then and am hoping I can do most of the walking, but am wondering if a GAC might be something to pursue as a "just in case, use only if necessary" back-up. I don't mind waiting in lines, I really don't. I actually quite enjoy it and have made some good friends in them that I still communicate with. I also make good use of the fastpass system. I'm just going through that "what if" scenario in my head and am starting to get scared that after one day of doing the parks I'm going to be sitting on a park bench for the rest of the week.

Anyone do the parks with a knee injury? Any suggestions for me?

A Gac will not affect waiting in lines. As a matter of fact, it states right on the GAC that it will not shorten wait times. WDW's answer to mobility problems is to use either a WC or ECV.

Actually, a GAC isn't needed with a WC or ECV. It's purpose is to alert CMs to things like not climbing stairs. Obviously, with a WC or ECV, that isn't possible! Most lines at WDW are mainstreamed. Everyone goes in the same line. For the few that separate, you may actually wait longer in the "disability line" than the main line!

People will see you divert to a different line and think you are getting on faster. Not happening--often the number of people who are allowed on a ride due to possibly needing assistance in case of malfunction is very limited (or there is just one ride car that you can use) and you end up waiting much longer than others.

You're getting ahead of yourself here. Don't anticipate what your abilities will be until you have seen your doctor and had the appropriate testing. I had surgery for a torn meniscus a couple of months prior to a Disney trip. After PT and consistent strengthening exercises, I was fine. I had no issues with the amount of walking required at WDW. Good luck!

This makes me feel SO much better, not nearly as scary as some other things I've been reading!
