Twas the month before Christmas when all through the town
Many creatures were stirring in the debris still around.
The stockings were moldy, the chimney torn down
But we're still hopeful St. Nicholas will soon be around.
The Red Cross bell rings through the streets with hot meals
As we toss more possessions, how somber it feels.
Last year we had snow.
It seems so long ago.
This year our hearts churning
For friends not returning.
Our wish list is simple and we have the proof
We just want some walls and some need a roof.
This Christmas safe levees and pumps that are manned
are wishes we hope are sure in the plan.
Our friends who lost nothing say they feel guilty,
But their lives changed too and their world got so filthy.
Out on the street we hear such a clatter,
But look it's a trash truck; there's nothing the matter.
How excited we are when more trash is picked up,
We over look the holes left in our yard from the truck.
How different life is, but still blessings are here
The Lord sent friends, family and strangers for help and good cheer.
On FEMA, on Red Cross, on SBA;
Here's an insurance adjustor, get out of the way.
In this Greater New Orleans area
We know we will be merrier
If we have faith and stay strong and hold on to where we belong.
This wish is for you, our friends far and near
MERRY CHRISTMAS to all and a new year without fear!
