When is it and what is it? We are already thinking about a trip first week of Dec. 2010 and know I saw some mention of a mixer.

It's a DVC party held in a big tent outside the International gateway to Epcot. They usually have cookies, lemonade, etc, and the holiday characters come and have games and dancing for the kids. They give out a DVC ornament, and you are able to buy special trading pins if you choose to stand in line. Other years they have also had a give away gift basket, but not sure if they are doing that this year or not. It is usually each Thursday of December from 3-5.

It's exactly the same this year. It's nice to visit at least once but I don't think that I would go out of my way to attend again.

:) Bill.

I agree with Bill. It was something to visit one time but I found it to be kind of nothing unless you've got little ones (think character dance party). I won't be trucking over there during my visit next week. And if I remember correctly, there was alcohal available near the back for a price.

On a side note, as of Thanksgiving weekend, they were no signs of this event outside the International Gateway yet.

We went to the 12/3 Mixer - This was our first trip as members. We have a 2.5yo who absolutely loved the dancing. Everyone got a ticket good for one Christmas decorated Krispie Treat. There was apple cider and water and a cash bar. The line for pins was extraordinarily long. Pluto, Goofy, Chip and Dale and Minnie and Mickey came our for pics - the line went quickly (very few kids asking for autographs, quick pics and move on).

There were also craft stations for kids. Additionally, if you signed up for an open house at the mixer, there were apparently very good incentives. The 4th was our last day, so we were unable to make an open house. The guide at the mixer said add ons at AKV were $15-$23 off depending on # of points added.

We would definitely go again, our daughter was very sad to leave.

It was everything you said my kids loved it just as well we have had dvc for 10 years but this was our first mixer it was fun talking to other dvc members from your state and evrywhere else too. and the line got extremely long thank god we got there early to buy them . If you remeber seeing a family wearing matching shirts with there names on it that was us . maybe next time we can say Hi.

We do have a little one and characters with dancing sounds like a good time. We are already talking about our Dec trip while finishing up our plans for the April/May trip.

I noticed that since owning our DVC we have to start thinking about planning almost a year in advance! We don't take any quick impulse trips.

We went to the mixer and won't go out of our way again. The line for the pins did not move at all. We waited in line for about 15 minutes and at the rate we moved, if we didn't get out of line, we would have missed the rest of the party.
We got there about 3:15pm.
All the activities were aimed at children and we had no children with us on this trip. We got our DVC ornament but it's the same ornament you can pick up at a Doorway to Dreams store if you have one near you.
It was also very crowded.

Ditto! This was my expereince also at last year's Mixer (my first). I had no kids and didn't get much out of the experience besides the ornament (and I don't even know what I did with it). The pin line was long then also but I don't collect so it didn't matter to me.

we are headed up thursday-saturday at BLT and are going to MVMCP Thurs night...we were thinking about going to the mixer (would be our first one), we have a 2yo and 4yo. Only thing is not sure if we want to go through the trouble of getting from BLT to BWV or BCV and walking to the International Gateway, before coming back to the MK for the party. If it's really worth it, maybe we'll do it, but if not we'll save our energy for the night.

I went to the mixer for the first time and I was rather shocked to find 4 dollar cokes. The question I have if someone knows the anwser do members pay for this or does disney.

thanks

Any DVC party is put on and paid for buy DVD Marketing. That's why you will find Guides there to sell you more points.

:) Bill

We went to the mixer on the 10th. There are two lines to get in. They don't really go out of their way to let people know that. (we waited in a long line for 15 minutes before we got to the door and realized there was also a short line. The long line is for people who want to purchase the pins. We don't purchase pins, so that was a waste to wait in that line, LOL.)

In any case, it was a nice party. More lines when you get inside to wait for pics with the characters. Free rice krispy treats (which are $4 at the resorts). Free hot cider and coffee I believe also.

Would I go out of my way for this? No. If I'm staying at a Boardwalk or BCV resort though and it falls into my schedule easily, yes I'd go again.

The free ornament is a nice touch too. I don't buy those either, so I enjoy free. :)

I was there last Thursday and was shocked to see that too! $4 for a can of Coke? We only stayed for 15 or 20 minutes, got our rice krispie treat and cup of water, collected our ornaments and left.

I think if you have young kids, they will have fun at the mixers.

They had some craft stations set up with kits to make Christmas doorknob hangers and some other Christmas decorations. Just my friend and I went to this mixer. My friend has a four year old and a three year old. She asked if she could take a kit for her kids and was told "no". The woman said if we came back after 4:30 and any kits were left, we could have one.

The mixer was really geared toward little ones. I thought it was odd, since the littles ones are not the ones shelling out tens of thousands of dollars to purchase DVC.
The ornament they gave out is also available at any Doorway to Dreams store, which is close to us. I really wanted a pin but the wait in line was horrendous.

It was interesting to go to once but I won't be attending any more of these.

We too were there last week. The kids loved the crafts and the rice crispy treats, not crazy about the apple cider. Great ornament they gave out for your tree, but the line up to look/buy DVC pins was ridiculous. We stayed for about half hour and decided that was long enough.
A fun family event...

We attended our first merry mixer today. We did plan our afternoon around it as I was excited to see what they offered. The pin lines were very long, but moved fairly quickly. The treats were nice, and I entered the drawing for the basket. My kids LOVED the dancing and crafts, I was lukewarm to the whole thing. I would not go again unless I just happened to walk by and I was doing nothing else. Nothing great IMHO, but glad I was able to experience it!
