Meredith's Disney Adventure: PICS added to first post; includes first haircut

Elisabeth -- Good news! Le Cellier said we could bring the stroller in if we wanted. Meredith was up and we had planned to give her lunch then, so we just used the high chair. It was a great restaurant; I highly recommend the Mixed Green Salad, Calgary Chicken Sandwich, and Cheddar Cheese Soup. :cloud9:

Thanks for the report. We were just at WL lodge too. We got there Thursday night and stayed in room 2023 (almost right below you). We were at Epcot Friday afternoon/evening and Magic Kingdom Saturday afternoon/evening. I wonder if our paths crossed?!

Joyce, I loved reading about your trip! Thank you!

We are going the first week of May with my 9-1/2 month old and 2-1/2 year old boys. I'm just in a quandry about this whole crib thing! My MIL reserved two cribs for the boys, and it's my understanding that we will get porta-cribs of some sort, unless they are out, and then they have pack and plays in the room. (We are staying at Beach Club Villas.) I don't think the baby would sleep in the pack and play though. He wouldn't when we went on a trip when he was 4 months old and he never does at home. For my 2.5 year old, we requested the crib, but when we check in, we are going to ask them for just the mattress and then we are going to put that on the floor for him. (He sleeps in a toddler bed at home.)

Sigh. Now I'm thinking of renting a full sized crib instead. I think I need to call Disney to talk to them about this. My MIL has made all the arrangements so far and I'm not sure if she's been asking them the right questions, kwim?

In any case, I loved hearing your stories! The baby doesn't need a haircut, but I might have to get him one anyway. The first haircut at the barber shop sounds like so much fun!

Tina

We don't have all the pics back yet, but here are the Disney Photo Pass ones. I love the sly look Meredith gives Mickey in the 2nd one. The best part is that she usually bawls when other people hold her, but she had no problem hanging with Mickey! p.s. don't you love the hat hair?

slknight -- How cool! Maybe we did see you somewhere--the bus, the boat perhaps? We had Meredith in a Silver Cross stroller that has a faux-Burberry plaid canopy. If you saw us, we had that with us!

TinaSquirrel -- I totally understand. I just had to rent a crib "just in case," calling it my $70 insurance policy. I just couldn't take a chance with Meredith sleeping poorly, which would also mean me sleeping poorly and no fun at the parks! What I did is search the boards here for "crib" and many people said that the "full size" cribs at the resorts are pretty small and old (metal). Now, you know how it is--everyone has a different story--but after reading most posts I just decided to go with the rental and not worry about it. Now, if I had a baby who was used to PnPs at daycare or something, that would be a different story. But she is picky, picky, picky. Also, for your older son, is sleeping in a regular bed an option? I know that the hotel also has bedrails that you can use. And I know what you mean about someone else not getting the details right--my mom checked in before us and when we got there she said "you're on the list for a crib!" and we had to cancel it when housekeeping brought it.

Enjoyed your report! How did you keep your sweet DD shaded from the sun in her stroller? Did you buy a special shade? (We leave next week with our 6 month old DD.)

jels -- Hi! Well, we took the stroller (of our 2) that had the best canopy (it's a Silver Cross Camden, and that canopy offers a lot of coverage!). Then, we basically just made sure that DD's leggings came to were her socks were most days. Still, we put sunscreen on her legs right above the socks just in case. On two days she was wearing shorter pants, and we just made sure to reapply sunscreen.

I saw quite a few people with special shades or blankets over the stroller. That could work as well.

HTH!

p.s. we used California Baby sunscreen and it was great!

I'm jealous of all that hair your precious angel has :)

I want to have DD's hair cut when we're there because older DD's first haircut was in MK as well, but DD (9 months) has very little hair and I thought they would look at me like I'm nuts! :lol

Sounds like a great trip!!! I'm happy to hear that your baby was able to go on so many rides - I'm heading there soon with a 21 month old and was wondering how much she could go on.

About the haircut - did you get there first thing in the am? My boys are dying to get their haircut in Disney - and the colored hair gel as well. We are staying offsite.

Should I plan on getting there before the park opens and then run right to the barber shop????????

So, after we were there for a few minutes up came housekeeping with the "crib." It was an OLD Pack n Play with green trim and no mattress in the bottom.

Whoa!!!! No mattress?? Was it just an oversight that they would have corrected do you think? They didn't actually expect your baby to sleep without a mattress surely? Please say no! lol

Great trip report. Your baby is beautiful and the pics are just great!! What an expression! Priceless! :)

We have always had a PnP that was either brand new - or in very good condition so to those who are yet to arrive don't worry. If housekeeping should bring you one that you don't want, have them bring another. The Deluxe resorts, Dolphin and Coronado Springs offer a full size crib but you have to ask for it. In rare circumstances you **may** be able to get a full size at another resort if you need one.

In 10 years of trips, with my kids and various neices and nephews we have never had a problem with cribs. My sil used a PnP in December and she said it still had the original packaging on it. My neice was fine in the PnP but the prior December she requested and got a full size crib for my nephew at CR.

I always bring my own sheets and any lovies for the kids, I bring a full size and a PnP so the feel and smell will be familiar and I know its clean.

OP= I love your trip report, thanks for taking the time. I don't want to step on your thread but just want ease any worries of those yet to go.

TJ

That's good to know. I had no idea they do full-size cribs at the deluxe resorts. Did you have to request it on your reservation or is it ok to ask at check-in? Thanks.

Joyce - thanks so much for your reply - that is great news for us. I hadn't even thought that some restaurants might allow the strollers inside. Thanks for sharing all of your experiences with us.

Thanks for checking out the pics! I'll have to add more when I get them. ::MickeyMo

DMAMom-- We actually did not go to the barber shop right away--we got lucky. Meredith was usually ready for her morning nap by the time we got to the parks so we just headed straight for the big rides and took turns strolling with her in the mornings. On Monday afternoon, however, we happened to be near the barber shop and just stopped by to see. It was right before 5pm (when they close) but the CM, Beverlene, was so nice that she took us! The cut took all of 5 minutes but it was so cute! She said that it really depends--sometimes there's a line, sometimes not.

DebIreland -- I'm not sure what they would've done about the mattress. Maybe they were running low so we were offered the bottom of the barrel? Still, it seems like most people here have gotten the mattresses in the bottom, so maybe that was just an anomaly. I remember thinking it'd be like sleeping on a trampoline. :Pinkbounc

HI Joyce- GREAT trip report! Thanks so much!!!!! Did you guys do any of the night fireworks or the parades? I am sorry if I didn't read them and you did write about that ... just wondering how she did during those? We had a local parade here this weekend and ds could have cared less what was going on.

We are also praying for a a few more strands of hair within the next two weeks! My dh asked me if he was too young for the hairclub for men! :teeth: We are hoping he can have atleast ONE hair cut at WDW this trip! :)

lynetteSC -- We watched fireworks from the balcony most nights w/ DD asleep inside. My Mom watched DD Wednesday night and said she woke up looking for me, and so ended up watching fireworks with my Mom. They were pretty loud even from our balcony, but didn't scare Meredith. I think close up would've scared her though, since loud noises elsewhere did.

We didn't do any parades, but I don't think Meredith would've noticed much about them. Once something catches her eye she follows it, but a lot of the time she looks at what's right in front of her. On Buzz Lightyear I was worried about her being overwhelmed by it all, but she was too intrigued by the control panel to notice.

Thanks for th quick reply! We are also taking my mom (and step dad) this trip. I am kind of worried since they think we are nuts for going to WDW so much before baby. Now, all of the sudden they want to go with us! The hardest part with her is she "piddles" (as my dh says) too darn much! We met this week for her to watch ds while I went to an adoption conference and boy I couldn't believe how long it took her to just get out of the hotel room! How long can you stay in a hotel room just cleaning up and thinking of things that HAVE to be done right then! I can see us leaving without her! LOL!

thanks for the pics! we leave in 3 more sleeps :) we really want to get ds's haircut, but he doesn't have much ... will they humour me and cut one or two strands?

lynetteSC -- I'm sure they do that all the time! After all, I was expecting for DD to have a fit and just get one little snip too. We got lucky. :-) The certificate and hat are so cute.

Have a great time!
