Hi,

I just received my menu tasting check list and have to list 3 entree's, 3 sides and 2 pre-reception items to try at our menu tasting. For the pre-reception, can you ask to try the items that come in the culinary displays (i.e. cheese display, anitpasto display, etc.)? Also, has anyone done a buffet menu tasting for a brunch reception, which items did you request to taste and did you pick items from different brunch buffet menu's?

Thanks,

Mine was for a lunch so I chose:

Pre-reception - beef skewers & Fajita station
Entrees - herb crusted beef sirloin (for a carving station), parmesean crusted chicken, & jerk chicken
Sides - classic mashed potatos with all the fixings & a pasta action station w/alfredo & al la vodka

You can build your menu from anything you see on any of the sample menus or if you enjoy a certain item from a WDW restaurant just ask for it. I also added the cheddar cheese soup from Le Cellier.

We choose two hot appetizers to taste, crab cakes and bacon blue and beef skewers. Both were excellent! We had questions about the cheese display while we were there. Before we knew it they brought out a small sample for us to try. :wizard: We got lucky with the pixie dust and the cheese was great too.

We tried the Parmesan crusted chicken, basil mashed potatoes, island spiced scallops. We did not like the basil mashed potatoes. Everything else was great!

Really!? I looooove the Cheddar Beer Soup! I never dreamed that we could put this on the buffet. I am soooo going to request it for ours.

Yes, a few brides here told me I could request anything and my DFi requested that. Lol, he loves that soup.

Did you end up picking those items for the pre-reception?

We haven't been to our planning session yet so we don't have anything set for our menu. Another DIS bride told me about the fajita station and said it as a huge hit so I wanted to see for myself. We love Mexican food so I'll be very happy if we go with that.

We are having a brunch and we don't want anything heavy so we will probably choose the International & Domestic Cheese Display...my question is can you put that down for the menu tasting?

Thanks,

I don't see why you couldn't. You could also taste an antipasto display. That's nice and light.

Are either of you able to post these selections or PM me with them? I would be very grateful. Do they have prices?
Thank you

We did the Tinkerbell Brunch. We tasted the anitpasto display and used this but not for our pre reception - we actually used it at our reception. We took the pastries from the Tinkerbell Brunch and used this, along with coffee, tea and champaign punch for our pre reception.

We had make your own omlets and make your own crepes (we did not taste these). The Tinkerbell brunch has a fig chicken on their menu. We tasted this and the parm crusted chicken (we went with the parm crusted chicken). The Tinkerbell brunch also included breakfast potatoes. We tasted these and the cheesy potatoes from the old 'Ohana menu - we went with the breakfast ones. The cheesy ones were great but we thought too heavy for brunch.

We tasted a veggie pasta and went with this also. We did try a few pre reception food but went with the pastries from our brunch to keep the cost down as as our pre reception was from 10:00 to 11:00 we felt that crab cake (although wonderful) would not fit at 10:00am.

I wanted to make sure that the culinary displays can be requested at the menu tasting as well cuz I was thinking it was only the hors d'oeuvres. We are thinking about adding the Wild Berry/Grand Marnier cream cheese crepes and replacing the chicken with the strip loin of beef.

We did not try them but added chocolate crepes to the Wild Berry/Grand Marnier crepes (my DH LOVES chocolate). We also tried the Cinderella Slipper - they gave us three as it was me, my now hubby and his dad.

We did try a beef (don't remember which one) but stuck with the parm crusted chicken.
