Menu Planning

Since planning out your dinner menu is a great budget saving tip, I thought I'd pass along a program I found today.

I'd been trying to figure out a way to make my grocery shopping easier. I try to menu plan for a month out so I only have to make one big trip to the grocery store a month.

Generally I print out a monthly calendar and go through what I plan to make that evening for supper. Then I write down the ingredients for those items on a seperate sheet of paper. I really thought I should be able to computerize it so I could click a recipe and all the ingredients are out there. I didn't need a fancy program with a long of features since I'm not much of a chef anyway.

There are a lot of programs out there, some that charge, but none that was easy to use without a lot of bells and whistles.

I found this Firefox addon. Looking at it, it's just what I'm looking for. I'm hoping to get all my "recipes" in there and try it out for next month.

Thanks, I'll look into it. Allrecipes is my first stop when I'm looking for something new to make.

The problem I'm having with allrecipes is with my own recipes. They aren't necessarily something I would want posted to share. Simple things like taco's or grilled cheese. I want the ingredients included on my list. If I create a private recipe, I can't get the items to go to a shopping list.

I'll have to play around a little more with it. That's why I liked the Firefox add on. I could have simple or complex recipes. Select what I'm planning on making and print my list. I do however like using allrecipes so combining it all would be great!
