menu changes at the Auberge de Cendrillon

Hi all love the new menu cant wait till we fianlly get to go in sept but do you think the menus will change before then? i just cant help but plan i even have lists!!!

I don't think the menu will have changed by September Jeskat.

Carrie - veal isn't very popular in the UK - for the reasons Vala mentions I guess. Eventhough lamb is popular, especially as it's in season at the moment, but also because lambs/sheep are farmed in abundance in the UK.

Also, goose isn't that mainstream here either - some people do have it at Christmas (and I think it was the traditional fayre at Christmas many years ago), most people have Turkey now I think.

Still think I'll be having the mushroom tarte :). Unless the chef's special comes up trumps!

Memo to self: take pictures of my own plate. ;) The mushroom tarte is my current favorite as well.

I've been discussing this with my dad tonight, and he says I should just have the veal, he doesn't understand why we eat lamb but then feel put off by veal because of the age of the animal. He says he is the same, and would never order veal, but when we discussed it he says it's silly because he would order lamb?!

I still don't know what to eat...! HUbby says he may try the goose and peaches! Has anyone eaten goose? Is it more turkey or duck in taste/texture etc.

We don't eat veal not because it's a baby animal but because of the way they are raised. Though tbh I eat very little meat only chicken really and a bit of beef every 6 weeks or so. Lots of fish and seafood though

Lamb and pork I haven't eaten since I was little (4.5/5)

Never had goose but according to my bil it's a fattier meat than chicken or turkey but it makes it more juicy rather than greasy and it's not gamy tasting

:)

I've only had goose a couple of times. Like Carrie said, it's fattier than duck or turkey, but it does enrich the taste. I don't particularly like the taste, but it definitely doesn't taste gamey. If there is anything I would compare it to it's duck, but that's mainly the texture.

Don't you get much veal in the UK/Germany ? :confused3 I don't eat it myself as I don't agree with the way it's raised but it's bog standard here.

The controversy isn't over that the calves are babies but over their restrictive diets and the conditions they're raised in. In the UK it used to be more popular once - and veal, ham and egg pie used to be quite a staple with salad or for picnics - but the highlighting of animal welfare issues in the 80s made the general public more aware and led to its decline. Personally I'm with Carrie and don't touch it because of these reasons but wouldn't have a problem if the calves could roam and graze freely - like lambs.

I've had goose at Christmas, it's got a richer taste than turkey breast, I think I'd compare the taste to the dark meat of a turkey and the texture to duck. If I were eating at Auberge I think I'd be choosing the goose and peaches, it sounds rather nice. :)

Thanks for clarifying that - I *knew* there was some bigger issue but couldn't remember ... and thought tonight I had made something up in my head about the reasons why I would never eat it (my brain stops working at times, I swear, I get half way through a conversation atm and forget what I was talking about! Probably just exhaustion, and being overfull of Aristotle, Plato and Descartes atm... enough to make me forget who I am tbh!) but you have clarified for me that I won't be eating the veal, and despite hating mushrooms, will probably be going for that!

Hi, I watched a programme on veal farming not so long ago, they are trying to re-introduce it in the uk under strict observation of the way they are fed and raised. Some farmers feel it is a better way for them to get use from the young bull calves instead of just having them killed off as they dont require them.
I think its a personal choice and i quite like veal but after all the controversy years ago and the fact other countries still farm veal under horrific conditons it will be a hard come back.

I knew I wanted to post this somewhere else first, but I only found the thread now. ;)

We've just been on Monday.

Met Snow White, Aurora, the mice, Cinderella and Prince Charming. It seems the prince is mostly Prince Charming nowadays, I chatted to a couple of people.

The service was not good - we waited over half an hour before they even took our order. Boyfriend was not impressed because meanwhile tables who had arrived later (but they had kids in the party) had even received their starters already! I didn't mind that much because with the exception of Cinderella all characters had come through in that time. I like to take care of the important stuff first. ;)

We both had the grilled vegetables as starter. Maybe that's different in France, but personally I expected those to be warm and you know, actually grilled. ;) They more tasted like pickled to us.

Boyfriend had the goose and declared it excellent. In fact he devoured it so quick I didn't even get the chance to take a picture.

I had the mushroom tarte and was very disappointed. Tasted like some cheap instant mashed potatoes with half a mushroom shot through. The salad was somewhat okay.

Dessert hasn't changed since I went last in December.

The kid's dessert now has a mini white chocolate slipper, if I recall correctly it used to be bigger. There's still that ice cream cone thing and that pudding like stuff in the glass. They've added in something looking like a small piece of chocolate cake.

Also we were charged for both boyfriend's coke and the bottle of water we shared. I need to dig out the receipt, but I am pretty sure in the past we got a soft drink included in the price.

The character interaction was very nice though. In the past we had some problems as an adult only table. This time Snow White came back twice, Aurora once, and the mice were all over us. I had done a drawing of the girl mice and asked them to sign it. Perla liked it so much that she ran backstage and even obtained the signature of the third mouse on the picture for me. Poor mousey was stuck working backstage. ;)

They are not doing the special menu for Dreams VIP area. They actually asked us where we had that info from, it seems a couple of people asked.

I asked about the vegetarian issue discussed here and was told a kid could get "pasta or the adult option." I'll get working on my photos and post the Auberge ones soon.

I had planned to post the review there once I have he picture ready. Wanted to save myself some edits. ;) I need to write up a summary for Inventions and Cafe Mickey as well.

You are a star

ps-I see that you got out of the car park ok ;)

Thanks Vala :thumbsup2

Hmm, I just don't know about this place this time but, as DD2 was too little to remember it previous times I promised myself I would take her.... I fear though that it may be our last visit as I don't plan a visit in November, but I guess that depends on the queues at the Princess Pavilion and how much the girls would like to meet some princesses!

Seems the price continues to increase but the service/food gets worse :confused3.

I was looking at the menu last night and it doesn't mention drinks for adults - other than the cocktail (non alcoholic) at the beginning. I think for the price one drink wouldn't hurt!

Did you use your AP - did you get a free aperitif with that? :confused3

The queue at the Princess Pavilion was never under an hour. I decided to get in line before opening on Saturday - it was raining cats and dogs and I figured the line would be relatively short. Yeah.... there went my cunning little plan. :headache: Half an hour before standard park opening the line was already going way back to the Teacups.

Not only the service gets worse, but the portions seem to get smaller too. It's not that we left hungry - but normally after Auberge we are so stuffed we skip dinner. This time boyfriend pretty much killed the whole bread basket on his own and we still both got hungy again at dinner time.

No more free aperitifs - they limit you to orange juice. I forgot in Inventions in my excitement when I saw Jiminy Cricket, but both Auberge and Cafe Mickey said it was orange juice only.

I wonder if this is why they seem to have changed the opening time until lunchtime? I expect a lot of the regular guests were complaining if the queue was that long before they were even allowed into the park :confused3.

Unfortunately they can get away with this because it is the only way to meet princesses without long queues and the princesses are very popular characters. If the princesses were more easily available we certainly wouldn't even consider paying for the meal.

Orange juice is fine for us. We will be able to get 5 between us plus the girls get drinks included in the childrens meals in most restaurants so we shouldn't have to spend too much buying drinks.

Glad to hear that the character interaction was good but it is a shame about the food. I was thinking of having the grilled vegetables but what you have said has put me off. I was undecided on the main but I think now I will be trying the goose. Looking forward to seeing the pictures.:goodvibes

Thanks for the reply Vala - can't believe the queue for the PP even in the rain! Like Jo said, they know they can charge this and offer less service/portions as people will pay :worried:. I think Auberge is the most expensive meal now apart from the California Grill tasting meal etc isn't it? I really don't fancy any of the food (was thinking mushroom tarte but not now lol) and so I'm hoping the chef's special is lamb or chicken the day we go! ::yes:: I wonder if they would let me have the children's burger or salmon - think that was the other option on childrens?

Orange juice is fine for us actually - like Jo, we'll get 4 plus the girls get a drink with their meal so that will do us well. Neither of us tend to drink alcohol during the day so soft drinks are fine - unless of course it is offered like it used to be with wine at Auberge... :(

I can't believe they charged you for water - was it bottled water? Again, I'm sure this used to be included. We were never charged for it, it was on the tables when we went in!

Jo - you'd be proud of me tonight, been on excel trying to work out meal costs and which is better to use AP or shareholders. It seems that due to the OJ, the only place where it will be prudent to use Shareholders will be Auberge due to the high cost. The rest, the 10% AP discount and OJ is better! :thumbsup2 Quite surprising really! But is in essence what I think you were trying to tell me the other night :thumbsup2.

:thumbsup2 I was quite surprised when I worked it out too until I thought about it and for shareholders to be better the extra 5% discount has to be more than the cost of two soft drinks which is only going to happen when the meal is very expensive. How did inventions work out?

I think so. We paid 2 Euros or so less at Inventions Sunday brunch.

I wonder if they would let me have the children's burger or salmon - think that was the other option on childrens?

It was, yes. They mumbled something about pasta when I asked for kid's vegeterian choices.

They did let me have a kid's menu a while ago (at full price), but a lot may depend on the CM I think.

Yes, bottled water. San Pellegrino. And it indeed used to be included.
