Men's Fashion - oxfords/loafers without socks?

I rarely wear shoes unless I have to go out in the cold, and then it's usually Vans slip ons without socks. If I'm snow-blowing the driveway I'll wear socks with boots.

Shoes are awful, I agree. Vans are a choice I forget about, but quite like:)

I'm talking about this type of look:

I see it around and it looks great or terrible, so I wondering about experiences outside of the hipsters I see. I also see it paired with shorts and some men can pull it off; just not sure most men can:)

If you look like a professional model you can wear just about anything, for mere mortals I'd have to vote no.

IRL, when it works, it seems to be with people that spend a TON of time on styling. I wonder if it can be done in a normal way.

 Fortunately DH deigns to wear regular gym socks with his runners, golf shoes and boat shoes instead of the  crazy ones he wears with everything else.

Decades ago I wore sneakers without socks a handful of times. Now I can't even stand the no-show socks. I wear the low cut or ankle socks with footwear when I'm wearing shorts.

A few years ago DW was complaining that all my other socks were boring, just plain black or navy blue or dark gray. So I started buying some colorful and novelty ones. I sometimes threaten to wear these crazy socks with shorts and sandals.

I can't get over the tight fitting suits jackets and skinny "dress" pants. IMO when I see that it's bad enough that the socks or no socks doesn't even hit my radar.

That's so funny. I'm at the point when I see someone in a relatively normal suit, I sometimes think "that needs to go to the tailor." I love the early Beatles style throwback style. Whenever I see super slim fitting suits, I just think of Lawrence Welk.

My grandson bought a tight fitting suit with skinny pants for his graduation. I told him not to gain an ounce! I hope it fits for his girlfriend’s graduation this June . He did wear very nice dressy socks though.

Looks like a casting call for the role of "D bag #2".

Meh, I hate socks so I wouldn't think it was weird to see anyone walking around without them, no matter what kind of shoes they were wearing. Except for my grandma; she raised me, I lived with her for most of my childhood, and i never saw her bare feet until I was an adult. We always had to wear shoes in her house!

I grew up in a small farm town and most kids ran around outside barefoot all day long. I used to admire them, I think they all had cast iron skin on the soles of their feet, they could play on gravel roads, run through rocky fields, wade in creeks with no protection from all the sharp pieces of shale in the creek beds.

Is it ok for women to wear loafers without socks? Because I have a pair that I love but I never wear socks with them, it didn't occur to me that it was weird.

Hahahah! Thinking about the one scene in Star Is Born.

DH got over his very, very, short-lived interest in wearing 'stylish' (crazy) socks quite some time ago.
Thank goodness!
With his black leather semi-walking shoe (Rockport type). He wears no-shows. Converse actually makes one designed to be worn like this, because, well, retro converse is still popular with younger people today, and who wears socks with Converse!!!

Brian - why not? I converted my DH this summer, as he does not do well in the heat and apparently thought all flip flops were foam pieces of crap. I learned him real good.

Love this!! I, too, converted my dh about 8 yrs. ago when I dragged him to a nice shoe store to at least 'try' a nice leather pair. Now! He wears them ALL summer!! Doesn't know how he lived without them! 8-)

Okay....
I had to go back and take another look at the picture, and actually look at the clothing.....
I think those TIGHT SHORT PANTS are the worst thing there!
The dress/non-masculine loafers without the socks is second to that.

Many podiatrists don’t like flip flops because they think they’re bad for your feet. I only let my kids wear them in public showers or around a public pool.

Does your DH run super hot too. I swear, mine thinks about the heat and starts sweating, once he gave him into the "nice" sandals - he's a profit. And, he hates matching socks, so this worked for him. I'm the same way about poison ivy though, I look at it and need a shot.
