Menopause is the pits!

Glad to know I'm not alone. I had a partial Hysterectomy (kept my ovaries) 6 years ago at age 43. Never had a problem until this past year. My memory is gone, I cry at TV commericals, gained 10 pounds, have night sweats and hotflashes all day long and my husband and son walk on egg shells around me as they don't know what will set me off. This is a horrible way to live. I do have a Gyn appointment in early August and I am hoping the Dr. will have some magical treatments to help. I am also going to research the GNC vitamins.

The memory loss is the worse. Today is my 49th Birthday and when a friend asked me this morning how old I was, I honestly could not remember if I was 48 or 49. That's sad.

I'm glad I found this thread and hope I remember to check back in.

Beth

Happy, Happy Birthday!!!! The inability to remember how old you are seems to be a commom problem.:thumbsup2

Had a hysterectomy 2 years ago, and I remember fighting with the Dr., when he put the estrogen patch on my arm after surgery. He told me, my body would go into full blown menopause, so I agreed.

6 months later, my gallbladder took a dump-20% of all users will get gall bladder disease.

I did stop taking the patch after that, but I had terrible heat flashes-that actually made me (how do you spell nasious). So I'm back on the patch.

I noticed the memory loss, and weight is starting to creep back on.
Bummer.

Someone sent me this joke yesterday:

What do you get when you cross PMS with GPS?

A crazy woman who can find you...

Now that we know we're not alone in our misery I'd be curious to know what people are doing to alleviate some of these symptoms. The GNC vitamins sound like something I'd definitely like to look at further. I know several ladies at work who swear by black cohosh but I never remember to buy any:rotfl:

I went out and bought 2 twin size blankets for our king bed. Now when I'm so hot at nite and throw the blankets off my husband doesn't have to shiver.

By the way, I went for groceries this morning, forgot my list, drove home to get it and forgot why I came home.

OMG so funny!! Thanks for that. :lmao::rotfl2: I totally get the name thing also. I'm also going to try the black cohosh and vitamins. I had to go out and buy a new teapot with a louder whistle as I kept forgetting I turned it on and burnt the pot a few times, every day making a mental note I just turned it on, and still forgetting. A little scary tho thinking I might burn the house down geeeez.;)

My husband had to start sleeping in another room. Between the night sweats and the 2 hairless dogs (with body temps of 120), the bed became too much of a hot swamp for him.

The bad news is that you can get hemorroids but the good news is that you forget you have them (most of the time).

I have a question for you guys- rather a symptom check? Has anyone experienced terrible stomach cramping or just having a constant stomach ache because of menopause? I am trying to pin point things and my stomach issues came along with the other symptoms around the same time- about 4 months ago.

Now loss of memory is a symptom??? Are you KIDDING? I WISH I could forget some things!! :lmao:

I'll be 49 next month and no symptoms yet that I can tell. I'll keep up with this thread though just in case!

I had this from Memorial day, till the middle of August, and they finally figured out, my gall bladder was only functioning at 10%. Mine all happened at the same time. I still take special medicine for my stomache cramps.

My sister-in-law called me at 11:00 pm earlier this month. She wanted to know if she was going through menopause. I told her I had no idea and that since she is 4 years older than me she should have more info than I do. I told her Google was her friend and to look up perimenopause.

I also told her I would ask the ladies on the DIS, but I forgot. :rolleyes1

Now what are the symptoms again?

Thanks for the list....:headache:;)

OP here - menopause is still the pits but you all are making it seem easier by sharing your thoughts and symptoms and suggestions. :goodvibes

I'm leaving in the morning for vacation so you won't see me for 9 days. It's not that I will have forgotten to post, :lmao: it's that I won't have internet access.

Off to count sheep ....

I can see what you mean about thinking you have most of these symptoms :rotfl2: I deleted the FEW I don't have.

I found this thread to ask a specific question and I think you answered it. I am having thyroid problems that are driving me nuts but I also am having menopause symptoms. I was gonna ask if it could be menopause but I see that hypothyroidism IS a symptom.

My PCP doen't think it's menopause but I think it is. My mom had a complete hysterectomy at 33 so I can't use her history. I am 41.

Anyway, thanks for this thread. It's nice to know I'm not crazy feeling all these things going on with my body. :)

I dealt with many of the symptoms for 10 years. The hot flashes, night sweats and constipation were the worst. Chemo accelerated it 2 years ago the hot flashes became so bad that my oncologist put me on medication for them. That's when I realized that for 8 years, I could have gotten medication to help with the hot flashes from my regular doctor. :lmao:

I admit I have not read the entire thread; by medication do you mean hormones? The hot flashes at night are killing me but I am afraid to take hormones.

Vent away!

I had just turned 36 when it hit me full force and not peri-. Had problems since my youngest was born at 32 and tubes tied, when later found out was peri-

At least I don't have hot flashes, I'm just cold ALL the TIME and MOODY.:rolleyes1
