I liked it too, but also never watched Northern Exposure. If it doesn't last long, it will be because it's a Friday night show. They showed it last night after Dancing with the Stars only to attract an audience. It starts its regular scheduled time this Friday night.

I guess I'm in the minority here, because I really liked it.

But I never watched "Northern Exposure" so I can't compare.

I like Anne Heche, I like the scenery (especially when she was riding the bike and stopped and looked at the mountains), I like the other characters, and I loved the scenes with the raccoon. I'll keep watching it, for as long as it lasts anyway.

I agree. I never watched Northern Exposure either. I thought it was cute.

Am I imagining it or is this "Northern Exposure" redone? No offense intended, I loved northern exposure, and there is no way to tell yet if this will be that good, but it sure looks eerily familiar.

I didnt like it...way too many mistakes in the show.

The Anne Heche character decided to stay in Alaska after she found pics of her fiance & his girlfriend on his laptop, which she mistakingly took. (bit of a stretch there)

Anyhow some of the many mistakes were
1) she was suppose to leave the next day yet had a 'book signing' in a local book store AFTER she was suppose to be already gone.
2) That girl found her IN THE BOOKSTORE AT THE BOOK SIGNING!
3) The Wedding dress designer KNEW where to send the wedding dress too!
4) Her friend/book editor FLEW TO ALASKA because she (pretty much the only one) didnt know what happened to the Anne Heche character. (however that girl & dress designer had NO problem finding her) Why didn't the friend/book editor talk to the fiance?

I'm like the rest of the second pagers-I never saw Northern Exposure, but I did catch Men In Tress and really liked it. I'm not much of a TV watcher and was just flipping channels and came across it. The only shows I watch are 24 and sometimes Medium. Anything that I've liked in the past got cancelled. Remember some years back there was a show done about Key West-it might have even been called that. Same storyline as Men in Trees...somebody ends up someplace and stays and falls in love with the quirky people.

Besides the mistakes listed above, there were several others that I noticed as an Alaskan. In the bookstore, they showed the time as 10:04 and then mentioned that it was 4 minutes past 8 in Chicago then so she could make her call. I hate to burst ABC's bubble, but we in Alaska are behind Chicago by two hours, not ahead. Therefore, it would have been 12:04 in Chicago. I know that's petty, but I hate it when shows don't do research about Alaska and pretend to know what they're talking about.

Second, I've never seen a racoon up here, my husband's never seen a raccoon up here, pretty sure we don't have them. In fact, upon looking it up, I found that they were introduced to the southern region of Alaska and subsequentially died out. Raccoons don't like our climate.

Anyway, I'm sure there were more, but I didn't pay too close attention to the show.

I will keep watching, though, if for no other reason than idle curiousity on what they can screw up about alaska....


edit: I did think the monologue at the end sounded way too sex and the cityish, when I heard that it had one of the writers from the show on there, I wasn't surprised. Don't get me wrong, I loved SATC, but do we really need a SATC moved to Alaska?? Really, the clothes would get a little drafty

There are "quirky" characters also.

That's because the state of Alaska is, in fact, populated solely by quirky characters! So all the rest of ya stay out yahear!

Alaskamommy! Never seen a racoon either. Should have used a porcupine or a field mouse. Black bear would have been more believable than a racoon!

I only made it halfway through the show - thought it was terrible. I went to bed at 9:30 instead...which was 12:30 Chicago time, 8:30 in Hawaii...oh nevermind!

I will watch it again. I think it does have promise, just because it could be character driven....just like northern exposure was. I just really loved northern exposure, so I may be being overly critical!

Turned it off after about 5 minutes. The raccoon bit was too contrived and wussy.. I hate that in female characters.

If she was such a strong woman why didnt she just whack that racoon out of the closet... come on its a raccoon.. And explaining to the desk clerk what a spinning class is, hello--he's not stupid!

Also this just proves that Ann Heche became popular for being together with Ellen Degeneres for a while, because she sure can't act her way out of a paper bag!

I was hoping for a little more punch. I was a true Northern Exposure fan and really missed the show when it left. I have never been to Alaska and I felt that there were alot of mistakes made. I don't think it will last very long.

I've watched the first two episodes and I kind of like it. It has a Northern Exposure - Sex in the City vibe to it. I don't see how far they can go with the storyline but I'll watch it for now.

Besides...that Jack character is HOT!

yes, it has major satc vibes to it. Her lines, her actions, her monologue, the fact that she's from new york, the way she can move so fast in heels Anyway, it seemed a little better tonight, still not a fan of the raccoon bit, but okay....

Did you not see "Six Days Seven Nights" with Harrison Ford? She did a great acting job in that, I thought.

I also thought it was like a Northern Exposure Revisited, especially when she did the radio show. It was watchable, though. DH watched with me, but then said it was such a chick show. I won't make an effort to see it again, but it wasn't terrible.

I love Marin and this little "thing" she has going with Jack.
