My good friend and co-worker has a history of atrial fibrillation, which can be very dangersous, esp. if it lasts more than 48 hours. He is having an episode now, but he hasn't an important work appointment and won't go to his dr. or the ER. He has done this before and was fine. He's just really aggravating me! "I don't have a choice, I have to do this project"...I said, great, we'll put that on your tombstone, moron!

OMG - my dh has atrial fibrillation and it is VERY dangerous! He had an episode a couple of years ago where he was driving to work and started to feel his heart race, he called me and was very upset, he started to get disorientated, and somehow, he got himself to an emergency room where his heart was beating at 180 bpm. He had to be sedated, it was a mess!!! The dr's said his heart was beating so fast, it actually wasn't beating at all, it was "quivering" and wasn't pumping the blood, a couple more minutes longer and he could have had a stroke. They were going to have to use the defibrillator to get his heart back into the correct rythmn because the episode was over 24 hours, but it went back to normal just as they were going to use the paddles. Now I'm always a nervous wreck whenever he goes anywhere, does vigirous excercise, has too much stress, ect... All the dr's told my DH that it could happen again next week, or it could never happen again. He was running on the treadmill this weekend and had to get off because it started happening again. It's very scary. :sad2:

I know what you mean. My DH would have died of septic shock 2yrs ago if i had not insisted he go to the ED for what we thought was the flu. By the time he got there he was shocky and within 2hrs he didn't even know who he was.He was given low odds of surviving the night. Turned out he was also having major heart arrhythmias and needed a pacemaker~

Even with all his "stuff" i still have a hard time getting him to go to the doctor. He says he's afraid they'll put him in the hospital. well, duh! They might have to do that--because you don't go in until your lips are blue and your'e gasping for air. :sad2:

Hope you know CPR
