Memory Maker and Magic Bands - True?

So I saw the news that ride photos go right to the MB if you have MM. Amazing. I bought it yesterday, got a conf. # and easily linked it to MDE for my coming August visit. Now I chatted with a CM because it's all hard to believe, but I need to hear from one of you guys....
1. If I already linked MM, do I really need whatever they are sending me in the mail - what is it for?

2. On a ride like Splash or Space, do you truly NOT have to stop at the photo desk, find your photo # and have it linked to your account? This is how it worked last year. They gave you a special PP+ Card and lanyard.

3. You can ony linke ONE MB to MM in MDE. So if my sons go on a ride w/o me, the photo will not come to me, but if I wait by the photo desk, can I get it the old fashioned way?

4. And finally, is it true that upon your arrival, you don't have to stop in one of the special shops to activate or pick up a special card?

Thank you. (BTW the great mystery to me is how it works. The RFID signal is not very strong - so how does the system know it you in that vehicle and to send you the pic? Face recognition? No wonder this cost them $1B)

If you see MM linked to you in the "reservations and tickets" screen then

1) No. The MagicBands linked to you can access MM. You might get a MM card, good to have but not necessary - it works interchangeably with your MB.

2) Ride photos associate automatically to all Guests wearing MB. They are only viewable to those with MB and MM.

3) This is inaccurate. So long as you directly manage your sons(OR if someone else manages them and they are set up so you can "view and download" their Photopass photos) their ride photos will show in YOUR account only. MM unlocks your ability to see the automatic ride photos, it does not stop them from associating "behind the scenes"

I loved this feature of MM! It started 3 days into our trip and boy did it save time! All of our photos showed up.

That is soo cool. I am looking forward to our Dec trip with MM. How early before my trip do I need to buy/attach it to MDE? I know there is a 3-day minimum for advanced purchase discount but that wouldn't allow time for something to come in the mail - what comes in the mail?

We ordered ours a month or so ahead of time. A hard photopass card comes in the mail, but if you have magic bands you don't need it. The sensors pick up your magic band and link the photo to your account.

For my family, I was the only one with a MDE account. My kids and my husband were listed on my account as well. Their pictures were automatically added to my account without me doing anything extra. I think (someone please correct me if I am wrong) you'd have to worry about the "view and download" only if they had a separate account.

Each night of our trip when I checked, the pictures from the day were already there. One exception- one afternoon, we went back to our townhouse to take a break and I noticed we had some pictures from the morning on our account, but not all. I called and the cast member I spoke to said to allow 24 hours for them to show up. However, within a few hours all the pictures from the day were there.

Confused and a little slow....I ordered MM and I have to go to will call with my confirmation number and CC I ordered with. Not a problem because I have to do that to activate our PAPs anyway, but is this a step that i can skip in the future?

While going through all of our photos from our trip a couple weeks ago, I realized that our MM &MB had synced, so we did get our ride photos for sure!! That's pretty awesome

We just got back from a week in WDW this past Sunday. They activated the Magic Band/Ride Photo thingy on all rides the day we were at Animal Kingdom. We rode Dinosaur, and after I got off the ride, I started walking to the photo desk to have our pic added to our MM. A CM told me it was already on there automatically. That they had just switched on the feature for all rides that morning after having tested it for months on a couple rides. This was a VERY cool feature, and all our photos are on our MDE account!

Disney is just so cool that way!

If you have the will call confirmation number, go to my reservations and tickets > link tickets > will call - and you can claim it there. Save your self some time later on. Some CMs are quick, you can save 5-10 minutes with others by doing it ahead of time

Sorry to hijack, but if on MDE it says "Your Memory Maker Photos" at the bottom, is your MM already connected? I am in Canada and they will not mail out the cards here. It would be nice if it was linked already, since they didn't mail me a confirmation number but I bought it when I booked the package.
