We are thinking about buying a memory foam 12" mattress by Sleep Innovations from Amazon.com. The cost is $520 for a king size mattress!

The reviews online are really good (4.5 stars with 45 reviews). My only issues is most people are reviewing right away or a few months after they have the mattress.

Has anyone bought one and had it for years? I am just concerned about how they hold up.

Also, some people are saying the mattress is hot. Do you find it's true?

We would have to get rid of our old mattress ourselves and not sure how we would do that.

Any opinions are appreciated!

You should try out a memory foam mattress for a while in a store near you first. We thought we might like one, but my DH felt like he was "stuck" in one position and had a hard time getting into a new one with it. Also we are edge sleepers and we felt like there was very little edge support and that we were rolling out (though we weren't....just felt like it). We decided it was not for us.

As far as getting rid of old mattress....in our area, waste management will take them away for you on the day after your garbage pick up if you put them out at the curb with your garbage. There used to be a $50 fee, but now it's free. You might want to check with your garbage service to see if they offer any help.

We moved from a Stern & Foster higher end coil mattress to a TempurPedic recently, and I cannot believe the difference. I sleep like a rock now, this never happened with our old mattress (or the mattress before, and before, etc). It is so comfortable and I feel so much more rested.

That said, it took a lot of convincing for me to agree to buy it because a lot of people say the mattresses sleep "hot" (as you mention). We ordered a "In Balance" pad from SleepNumber but it didn't come in until after the mattress was delivered. Over all, I didn't see much of a difference between the old mattress and the TempurPedic without the pad. However, after I installed the pad, the mattress sleeps very cool now with no change to the comfort of the mattress, so if you're concerned with temperature, invest in a "In Balance" pad or similar.

The place we bought our TempurPedic took away our old mattress free (well, I'm sure it's built into their pricing model), so I cannot help you there.

We have a Tempurpedic Ergo; we just got it 2 weeks ago. It sleeps very hot. I've had to pull the comforter off the bed and we are sleeping with only a light blanket. I don't know what I'm going to do in the summer when temps hit over 100+ here. We have the In Balance pad on there and we are still cooking.

We "slept" on one in the store for at least 30 minutes before buying it. I'm still on the fence about whether or not I will like it; I have not had a good night's sleep on it yet.

You have the In Balance pad from SleepNumber and you're still hot? They also make a CoolFit pad/cover, maybe you should check into that.

I don't like ours. It feels like I'm laying in sand on the beach... meaning if you laid down in sand and wiggled a bit to get the sand to conform to your body, that's what it feels like to me... there's no movement to it, which is good for not waking up another person in the bed when you move around (or jumping on it w/ a glass of red wine perched on the corner :rotfl:), but it just is too blah for me. I like a spring-y mattress. (but my dh loves it).

Yes, I see they also make sheets. I may have to try that next. I've been on chemo drugs for 4 years now and I'm always cooking. It's definitely worse since we got the Tempurpedic, even with the cooling In Balance.

We've had our TempraPedic for about 12 years.
I still love it. I've always felt like it holds the room temp,
if the room is cold the matress seems cold to me and
vice versa. They do wear just like regular mattresses, ours
has a definate bowl shape and we're thinking it's time
to replace it. DH is making noises about getting a different
type, I'm just letting him try some out and think he's shopping
for a different one. :rotfl:
BTW - Our cats love it too, there's always one on the bed.

Thanks all

I did read you can buy certain mattress pads that help with the hotness factor so that is good to know.

12 years is plenty of time for a mattress so if it lasts half that long at $500 I would be thrilled.

If you're getting a permanent depression in the mattress call to get it checked out. TempurPedic has a 20 year warranty that covers permanent indentations greater then .75" that is not a result of improper use (ie. no frame or base).

After the first 10 years, the warranty becomes pro-rated (50% plus 5% for each year to 20 years), but if there is a problem, getting even 45% off a new mattress is worth it (assuming your mattress is 12 years old).

I've been thinking about that, we've been in our house 14 years next month and we bought it right after we moved in so, it may be older than 12 years, but I doubt I know where any paperwork is now. We got an excellent deal on it to begin with at the time DH was working at Brookstone and they had a manager's deal one year for 75% off !!!!!!
It's the only way we could have afforded it back then !
I'll check into it and see what I can find out, Thanks

We got 3 last summer from overstock. They hace 1.89 shipping. Everyone is happy with theirs and I will be ordering another one soon. The prices at overstock at great

DH would love one, but I don't care for them. We stayed in a hotel with Tempurpedic mattresses and it was the worst sleep I've ever had. Like others have said, I felt stuck, yet unsecure at the same time.

It's all personal preference, but I didn't like it.

This is the one that my friend recently recommended to me:

http://www.bedinabox.com

She first got a twin for her daughter, and then about three months later she replaced her own queen. Now we've bought a king from them.

Very very comfortable - better than any spring mattress we've ever had; far far superior than our old Select Comfort bed; and perhaps almost as good as our old waterbed.

I also got one from the "O" and I love it. No, it's not hot. Yes, it's wonderful. I believe I got the 10" (but not positive). I've had it a few years and it's the same as when I got it.

Free shipping right now ... gotta love that!

Our mattress is horrible and we woke up every day with back pain. Took a long time to get the kinks out of the back to be able to move well.

We didn't get a memory foam mattress but just bought a membership to Sam's Club and they had a 3 inch foam topper for $99. Figured before buying a whole mattress, we'd spend the $99 and see if we like it.

No more pain, just from having the 3 inch foam on top of our cheap 14 year old worn out mattress.

We've had just about every kind of mattress over the years from ctraditional coil spring (soft to firm), water bed, memory foam and sleep number. The memory foam came with the standard 20-year warranty and we had to replace it on a regular basis every 1 to 1 1/2 years because it lost it's memory and would get permanent sags. After the third replacement they had us sign off on the warranty, which we gladly did. They were all fine for about a year, but once they lose their memory they are terrible. We did experience them holding body heat, which was okay during the NY winter, but not so good during the summer. We bought a sleep number about five years ago and it's been the best mattress we've ever had in over 30 years. We opted for the model without the foam pad since the saleman said the pad would hold the heat and that was one of our concerns. I leave my side on the same setting, but my wife has had three major back surgeries and adjusts her side all the time. I can sleep on anything, but did not like the water bed or the memory foam. We swear by the sleep number.

My FIL has a Tempurpedic one. He bought his the same time we bought a new pillow-top coil mattress. DH has been talking about getting the same matress, but I wasn't sure......after spending a month at FIL's house both DH and I were so glad we didn't!! It was just so hard to us, we couldn't get comfortable. DH actually slept on the couch for two weeks because he couldn't stand the bed. Now, my FIL loves it so there is two conflicting opinions .

I couldn't buy a mattress without trying it out at a store at least. More power to you if you can and think you'll be happy with your choice. There are just so many out there and they all feel so different to everyone. DH & I tried many before we finally came to one we both liked.

We did not like the Temperpedic at all. Chiropractor says she's hears that a lot. Regardless of what the salesman said.
