Well I will be leaving for WDW in a few weeks and I need to purchase some new memory cards. My Nikon D50 uses the SD type card. I have 2 extreme SD cards by SanDisk but I would like to buy an extra card. What brand of SD card do you use? Are the reliable and how is the quality. Are there any good buys out there that you know of? I appreciate your suggestions.

:)

I've used Sandisk reg. speed and Sandisk Ultra2, PNY and Kingston in my D50 with no problems. This week Circuit City has 2GB Sandisk Ultra2 for $19.99, 4GB Sandisk and PNY for $24.99 and 2GB PNY for $14.99. Buy.com usually has good deals on memory. A few months ago I bought a 2GB Kingston from them for $10/free shipping, no problems with it, it was filled almost to capacity once already. Right now they have 2Gb Kingston and Dane Elec for $10/free shipping.

I have had good luck getting them pretty affordable from both RadioShack, and Staples, either in store or online.
Staples currently has a 3 pack of PNY 1 Gb cards (3Gb total) for $19.98.
I do know that both Staples and Wal-Mart Price match plus 10% of the difference.

Stick with named cards.. Sandisk/Kingston are best... don't go for more than 2GB with a D50. The D50 doesn't work well if at all with larger cards.

Good to know. I haven't found the need for more than 2GB so I haven't purchased any 4GB+. Guess I won't. I bought a bunch of 1GB cards when they were considered cheap, then some 2GB's when I saw them for $10-$20. I have plenty of memory cards to keep all 4 of our cameras going or a 12 day trip to most anywhere. I remember when I bought 2- 1GB Sandisk Ultra2's from Amazon for $120(2 years ago) and it was a great deal. Now you can get 2GB Ultra2's for $20!

Kingston is my favorite. I have never had one fail and they are much cheaper than SanDisk and Lexar.

Sandisk Ultra II 4 Gig for 34.99 with free shipping</A> (has the USB connection built in) good through 6/8

Not sure about the claim that a 4 Gig card wouldn't work well with your camera though.

Trust me on the not working... I thought I had found a great deal on a 4GB Sansdisk ultra II for my wife's D50... It was a great price but the camera couldn't format it. D50's don't format in FAT32 which would be required for a 4GB card... There are rumors that you can pre-format on your computer and then use it but I didn't work for me... It is possible that there was a slight change in the firmware inside the D50 during its production run and some people got lucky with the later cameras, I can only attest to my wife's and it just wont accept anything over 2GB.

Yep, I believe you. Kinda hard to believe. I did the google thing and it seems there are many folks finding the same thing. I know you didn't need my affirmation but just wanted to make sure I didn't lead anyone else to doubt it.

Thanks
