Memories of Little Green Men and Sardines (6/8-17, 2010) **FINAL UPDATE 2-25-2011**

I've stayed at Pop and we're staying at POFQ in December. Pop is a lot of fun and has good theming which I think your son would enjoy. I haven't stayed at a moderate before so I can't compare too well to what you had at CBR. My impression, though, having visited the moderates (including CBR) is that the theming at the moderates is more "luxurious" and the theming at the values is more "fun." I hope that makes some sense. I can give you more info and pictures about POFQ after our trip in December but I know that will be past the deadline for free dining. When we did a carriage ride there on our last trip, we thought the resort was gorgeous and it looked very cozy. Here is a link to the POFQ thread on the DIS:

I don't think you can do the dining plan if you stay at Swan and Dolphin, but I'm not for sure.

I'm glad you're getting your tote! :) I hope the stress eases up for you soon and that your husband finds work again quickly. I'll be praying for you and your family.

Great DHS updates! And YAY on getting your Dooney and Bourke tote! I just got the email about the colored ones and would love to get one. I just don't think I can justify getting another one. Boo.

If you get the chance, I'd love to see your vinylmation collection and the doubles you have. :thumbsup2 Did you find anyone who is interested yet? I am still so bummed the Toy Story ones weren't out on our trip. Now I am hearing they are going to be Disney Store exclusives! :mad:

I am excited about Free Dining being extended too. We had planned on going to Universal next year(:scared1: DH and the boys want to go see the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I'll admit that I would like to see it but just for one day, not a whole week.) We have never used the Dining Plan before, we are quick service kind of people. I don't like to waste precious time sitting and waiting for food but since we have been several times, it might be nice to try it. Now I just have to get DH on board.

Sorry to hear about your DH's job. I hope that he will be able to find something soon.

Yay for getting your tote! I'd wouldn't be able to wait 4 more weeks either!

As far as your future ticker, I keep hearing that Fall is the best time to go. I willlet you know after our trip :lmao: but seriously, it is cheaper for sure, and with free dining extended, I can't imagine NOT wanting to plan a trip. It's killing me not planning one, but I keep telling myself that when DS turns 5 we are going for a 2 week fabulous trip. I need to save my money for that so we can stay in a deluxe and do everything that we want for that trip. But it's hard to look at the long term goals sometimes...

Thanks for the link to Port Orleans French Quarter! I have no idea what started my obsession with it, but I just have my heart set on staying there next trip! I've heard alot of good things about Port Orleans Riverside as well. They are so close together, I'm sure I could stop over & "visit" the other resort on our trip no matter which we stay at. Maybe my obsession started when I found out you can take a boat to DownTown Disney! :rotfl:

Seriously though, all of the Disney resorts are amazing! I was looking at a relatives picture over the weekend of their recent Florida vacation. They rented a home & it looked gorgeous & HUGE...but I'm not sure I can give up all of my Disney resort perks! (There's NO WAY I am driving to the parks or to/from the airport...no thanks!)

I am also considering Pop Century mostly for our son. I think it would be nice to stay there but I'm worried that the pools would be too crowded. What do you think since you've stayed there before? On our past 2 trips, we dropped guests off at the Value resorts on our way to our resort & they just seemed packed full of people...at the bus stops, going in/out of the resort, the pools. But I know the crowds are fairly low at the end of August/beginning of September so maybe it wouldn't matter :confused3

I did look into the Swan & Dolphin and I've ruled those out. I think they would be nice if I were going on a business trip or something (which obviously I'm not since I'm a SAHM...lol) but they don't look "family friendly" enough for me. I'd much rather stay at Pop or POFQ.

I'm thinking about possibly waiting until the very last day I am able to book the Free Dining Promotion & then just booking. I figure I can change the dates later if I need to (it was simple this past trip & I think it only cost me $40). I will book the dates that we are "almost" sure of, pay the $200 deposit, and then change when it gets closer to the date. Do you know if I can do that? If I call later & change (assuming my changed dates are still within the free dining promotion) will I still be eligible for the free dining? Or do I have to have "definite" trip dates prior to October 30th & book? I'm confused & have no time for research! Yikes! :confused:

I sincerely appreciate your prayers more than you know. We are definitely stressed & will probably continue to be until things pick up again. Its a super-confusing career that my husband has. Its "normal" for him to be laid off for periods of time & then get called back to work...but normally that period of time only is a few days or weeks...we are thinking this time it may be a few months. Work is just very slow & has been for the past 2 years. We have been very, very blessed & fortunate that I am still able to be a SAHM and not have to get another job yet (although I do sell online here & there) and that we have still be able to go on 2 Disney vacations! In addition, we have made some cut-backs but haven't had to sell anything major (like a house or a car) so I consider us to be lucky compared to some other people & friends that I know. It is very stressful, but we are also very lucky & thankful for what we do have. Again, thank you & I really do appreciate your prayers! :goodvibes

Great DHS updates! And YAY on getting your Dooney and Bourke tote! I just got the email about the colored ones and would love to get one. I just don't think I can justify getting another one. Boo.

I'm glad you liked the DHS update! I am soooo excited about my Dooney! I know it must sound insane but the day it came in the mail, my heart was pounding until I actually saw it. I was so afraid of buying it through Disneystore.com without seeing it first. I used to buy expensive purses when I was working, but after I became a SAHM, I decided to sell them because we needed the $$$ more than I needed the purses. So this will be my first expensive bag in a few years! I'm very excited! When I opened the box, I was very happy with the design & placement. I looked at the Wonder bags on our June trip & didn't see any that I didn't like, thats why I figured it would be safe purchasing it without first seeing it. I will post pictures of it one day this week! :lovestruc I'm actually "saving it" because my husband wanted to buy it for me as my combined birthday/Christmas present. So I took it out of the box, took pictures of it, and stored it in a pillow case. (they say to store them in a white pillow case :confused3)

I am so disappointed about the Toy Story vinylmations! I haven't seen them anywhere except ebay & I'm not buying them at their ridiculous prices! I'd like to have Woody, Buzz, Jessie, TRex, and Weezy (the penguin) but like I said, not paying those prices! Where do they have them for sale? I was going to see if someone could pick them up for me this fall. Are they available at the parks? Or just the Disney Store? Are they available at all of the Disney Stores? The closest one to my house is about an hour away. I was planning to take a trip to that mall for some Christmas shopping. I wonder if they'll still be available then. If you have any other info about them, please let me know. :goodvibes

As you know, I PM-ed you about the Vinylmations...thanks again! :goodvibes

Good news, I saw that the Toy Story vinylmations are supposed to be released at WDW/DL THIS FRIDAY!!!! :cool1::cool1::cool1: I can't wait for them to go up on the Disney Store website...:laughing:

I am excited about Free Dining being extended too. We had planned on going to Universal next year(:scared1: DH and the boys want to go see the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I'll admit that I would like to see it but just for one day, not a whole week.) We have never used the Dining Plan before, we are quick service kind of people. Sorry to hear about your DH's job. I hope that he will be able to find something soon.

I believe this Free Dining promotion is the same as the others. Its Quick Service if you stay at a Value and the Regular Dining Plan if you stay Moderate/Deluxe. So if you are interested in getting the QSDP, then I would say its possible if you stay at a Value resort!!! :goodvibes

To be honest with you, we have always been "quick service restaurant" people as well! We don't like having to make reservations ahead of time & its hard to even plan a trip ahead of time because of my DH's job. I was lucky this past trip by keeping my park-days flexible & was able to get my ressies. But I only needed to get 3 of them...if I needed 2 a day, I'm not sure that would be possible when I look up my ADR's only 1 month in advance! (since most people plan 180 days out!) We also don't like having to wait around for a table & then sit down at a meal for an hour...it seems like a waste of precious park time!

This being said...we have changed our minds about the QS vs the regular dining plan. While we like the QS food & restaurant choices, we decided that the regular dining plan would be nice since you get 1 TS and 1 QS meal each day...its a nice balance because you get both types of food. We also usually take a break towards the middle of the day, so if we schedule a TS dinner each night, this would be our meal & break so wouldn't take up our park time. I honestly never thought I'd convince my DH to eat at the TS restaurants, but since there's free dining next year, he suggested it! I have no idea what changed his mind, but I'm glad he did!

Yay for getting your tote! I'd wouldn't be able to wait 4 more weeks either!

I need to save my money for that so we can stay in a deluxe and do everything that we want for that trip. But it's hard to look at the long term goals sometimes...

Its so funny that I HAD to order my tote instead of waiting a few more weeks because I ended up "storing" it until Oct/Nov because my husband wanted to buy it for me for my birthday/Christmas! :rotfl: I know, its a little strange, but it did make my day opening the Disneystore box & seeing my Wonder tote in there!!! I was very happy with the placement & I will post pictures of it on my report so everyone can see it.

The fall is a great time to go. I have family that travels to Disney every year in late August/early September. The crowds are amazing!!! They actually rode Kilimanjaro Safari THREE times in a row & could've ridden again but chose not to because they wanted to move on to EE and some other rides! I have never heard of anyone riding the safari that many times in a row without a wait! It was literally a walk-on each time! :banana:

I know what you mean about long-term goals! Its so hard to resist planning Disney trips when they have such great promotions! Its much harder to look far into the future...but your 2 week trip definitely sounds amazing!!! If I had something like that planned, I think I would save the money to make the trip extra special instead of planning an additional trip! There were some little things here & there I wished I would've done on our past trip...if I would've waited to go around Christmas instead of in June, I maybe could've saved the extra $$$ and done those special "extras" for our son. Of course, just my opinion, but I would wait for the 2 week trip! Longer trips at Disney are definitely magical!!! :goodvibes

I also think age 5 is the perfect time to go...its when I took my very first Disney trip!!! I really want to take our son when he's that age, right before he starts school. I figure once he starts kindergarten, we'll have to plan our trips around his school schedule, which limits it to the "busy seasons" when all other families travel to Disney!

Good news, I saw that the Toy Story vinylmations are supposed to be released at WDW/DL THIS FRIDAY!!!! :cool1::cool1::cool1: I can't wait for them to go up on the Disney Store website...:laughing:

THANKS!!! :cool1:

So, they will be up on the Disneystore website? GREAT!!!! You just made my entire day! :goodvibes

I have family traveling down to Disney this fall. I will have to send some "Toy Story Vinylmation" money with them! :lmao:

I want a few from the Animal Kingdom series. They're going to be open-faced box just like the "Big Eyes" series. Did you see the AK series yet? I think the site is Vinylnation.net but I'll double check that for you.

That site has a list of all the series...already released & upcoming series. They also have pictures of each set!

(I, personally, was not a fan of the condiment series or the billiard series.)

Joining in!!

I skipped over the PTR stuff, but am all caught up on the TR and I'm enjoying it all. :goodvibes We are going to do a Photo Session at the Beach Club this coming trip - but thankfully we'll just be across the way at the Boardwalk so no chance of taking the wrong boat! What a stressful morning that was for you three!

I hope your DS warms up to the characters! Or maybe you just rolled with it and skipped right over the characters this trip! It's always an adventure touring with a toddler. :laughing:

I hope next year's trip works out for you Hope! I agree with your decision about holding off even if DH had not be laid off. Part of the fun with Disney is the planning as well as wanting to have DS older to enjoy even more! :goodvibes

I hope you are doing ok!! :hug:

I am assuming they will be on the DS website...I know that it usually takes a couple weeks after a series is released. AHHH I can't wait any longer! I really am dying to get some. LOL.

I did see the AK series. There are a couple that I like but for the most part since there are so many figures I'm going to try to limit myself to mostly park ones and a couple others here and there. And I agree, I don't get the condiment or billiard series. :confused3 Is there really a need for that? I think they are kind of overdoing it on some of those sets.

Hi!!! Welcome to my trip report!!! I'm glad you've enjoyed it so far! I loved the Photo Session at the Beach Club! I really want to do it again sometime, probably in a few years to compare the photos!

Glad you have no chance for a wrong boat/bus...we had quite the experience that morning! :rolleyes:

The Boardwalk looks gorgeous from reading your trip report!!! I don't know why but never thought about staying there before. Our favorite park is Epcot, so we really should stay at one of the Epcot resorts sometime! I also love how you can just take the boat over to Hollywood Studios!

Yes, yes...you are right...always an adventure with a toddler! Looking back on it, we had lots of stressful moments, but we still all had a really great time! :goodvibes

What happens at the other parks with my son & the characters gets kinda interesting at some points! Hopefully I'll finish another update soon & quit making everyone wait so long!

And last but not least...I absolutely LOVE reading your report & looking at your pictures!!! I need to catch up!

I hope next year's trip works out for you Hope! I agree with your decision about holding off even if DH had not be laid off. Part of the fun with Disney is the planning as well as wanting to have DS older to enjoy even more! :goodvibes

I hope you are doing ok!! :hug:

Thank you for agreeing with me! Its very comforting to have support with my decision! My DH couldn't believe I was passing up another trip to Disney but there is just no way. Most of the excitement for me before getting there is the pre-planning & the anticipation! I mean, I haven't even finished my trip report from June yet! I'm not even close to being half-way done with it! There's no way I can start another PTR, finish my TR, and go without planning. :eek:

I definitely think it will be more fun for everyone next year. Plus, like I told DH, if we go again this year, that means NO trip next year...not even a trip somewhere closeby. :sad2: With Disney extending Free Dining until next October, there's no reason not to wait. He was just getting caught up in the excitement & I think he needs something to look forward to since he's off from work for awhile. I told him the other night that he can just look forward to next year's trip for over a year! lol Plus I want to wait until everyone gets back from their fall trips to see which weeks are the least crowded...no way am I dealing with super-crowds again! :sad2:

I'm not 100% sure yet but since the deadline for booking is December 31, 2010, I think I'm just waiting until the last week of December to book something. Is it true that you can change the dates as long as its within a year of when you booked the trip? I am confused again! lol

I am assuming they will be on the DS website...I know that it usually takes a couple weeks after a series is released. AHHH I can't wait any longer! I really am dying to get some. LOL.

Thanks for letting me know. I'm really hoping they put them on the DS website. That would be very convenient because I'm planning to place an order before Christmas once I get an email for free shipping or $5 shipping. I did notice with the past releases that they put them on the website a few weeks later. I'll have to keep an eye out for them. I definitely want a few of the Toy Story set! Its funny because I want them more for sentimental reasons than I do for collector reasons! lol Lots of the kids in my family have seen either TS1, 2 or 3 with me so I have lots of fond memories of each movie! :goodvibes

I can't believe how many sets they have been releasing lately! You seriously have to be a millionaire to collect all the sets! I think people are nuts if they're seriously trying to get each & every one...how much would that even cost?!? :sad2:

I like the Park series, the Cutesters, and the ones that are "special" to me. For instance, everyone reading my report knows I was obsessed with Toontown, so of course I HAD to have the Toontown Vinylmation. I don't collect a certain series or a certain amount, I just collect the ones I like. I know, I'm a strange "collector"!

The condiment & billiard series were also overpriced IMO. I forgot to mention that in my last post! I'm not sure what they were thinking. Most of the Vinylmation series so far have been so colorful & interesting...the billiard series seems boring to me. As soon as I saw it, I immediately said "well, don't have to worry about spending $$$ on those, I don't want that set!" And the condiment set? I just don't get it at all either :confused3 Who wants a ketchup, salt/pepper Vinylmation? What does that have to do with Disney? I mean, I go to eat & shop but I still don't want a ketchup Vinylmation! :lmao: (Oh and I forgot to mention...the Disneyland "Ticket" series looks boring to me as well...again, just my opinion but I have no interest in those either!)

And while we're talking about it, I don't understand why they are releasing so many sets at the same time. I just checked the Vinylnation.net website. These are the new releases for the fall/winter:
* Vinylmation Ticket Booklet -- Summer 2010 (I believe just at DL)
* Vinylmation Park 5 -- August/Sept 2010
* Vinylmation Holiday 2 -- Sept 2010
* The Nightmare b4 Christmas -- Oct 2010
* Star Wars -- Fall 2010/Early 2011
* Urban 5 -- 2010
* Animal Kingdom -- 2010
* Steampunk -- Dec 2010/Early 2011
* Muppets 2 -- Early 2011
* Haunted Mansion -- Fall 2011

Not to mention the ones that were "just released" within the past few months!
* April 2010 -- Park 4, Jr Series 1, Sports, Oh Mickey
* May 2010 -- Big Eyes
* Summer 2010 -- Jr Series 2, Condiments, Have a Laugh, Toy Story, Urban 4, Disneyland '55, Billiard

I mean, I am a collector of these & absolutely LOVE them! But part of what I love about collecting something is getting an entire set or taking time to collect. Not financially possible with the amount being released, you know?

As far as the new releases...I liked Urban 4 so I need to look into the designs from Urban 5. I definitely love the Park series so I'm sure I'll get a few Park 5. I'd like the groundhog & Mardi Gras from Holiday 2.

I probably won't get any from Ticket booklet, Star Wars, or Steampunk. (I also think it would've been an awesome idea to release the Star Wars vinylmations this past June when they had Star Wars Weekends!!!)

Probably terrible to admit but I've never seen Nightmare before Christmas, so I probably won't get any of that set either. And another horrible thing to admit...I've never ridden Haunted Mansion so unless I ride it on our next trip, I probably will skip that series as well. I know, I'm a terrible Disney fan!

Just looked at the Steampunk collection & I don't get it :confused3 The only one I liked was the one with the watch & it will probably cost $50 so I probably won't get it! lol

The Animal Kingdom set, I'd like to get the giraffe, tiger, leopard, and zebra but probably will only get 2 of them.

Muppets 2 -- they haven't released all of the designs for that set but I'd love to get Gonzo. I remember watching Muppets as a child, so again its more of a sentimental thing than a collector thing!

I just looked at the Urban 5 collection & out of what was posted so far, I like 2 of them so I'll just have to wait to see the rest of the set.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Park 5...but I figured that! I haven't met a person yet that doesn't love the Park series! I definitely want the Mad Hatter, Yeti, Stitch, Figment, and Penguin! Also love the Tree of Life but its a 9" and I'm yet to get any of those (I do have the IASW stuffed 9" but none of the regular 9").

Well, I'm sure everyone loves that I never post an update but always go on and on forever about Vinylmations! So I guess I will stop talking about them for now! :rotfl:

Have a good evening everyone!!!!

What happens at the other parks with my son & the characters gets kinda interesting at some points! Hopefully I'll finish another update soon & quit making everyone wait so long!

And last but not least...I absolutely LOVE reading your report & looking at your pictures!!! I need to catch up!

Oh boy! I can only imagine what might have happened! :eek: :laughing:

And thank you for the compliment on my PTRs/TRs! I'm excited that we leave in just 6 days and I'll soon be re-living another one of our adventures out here on the DIS!!!! We are super excited about staying at the BWI and being so close to Epcot and DHS. I am thinking we might never want to stay anywhere else!

hahaha I love all your vinylmation posts! There is that event going on this weekend and someone posted a whole bunch of pictures of upcoming figures...OMG I am going to be in trouble...there is a set (well, open boxes like the Oh Mickey) of all the parks for the 40th anniversary of WDW next year, a DVC exclusive, 2011 ones (kind of like how they always have pins for each year), and so many others.

I agree though, it is insane how some people try to collect all of them. Do you post on vinylnation? Some of those people's collections are INSANE! They literally own EVERY figure ever made. I would feel so guilty spending all that $$$ on vinylmation. I love them, but come on. I typically stick to the ones I like too. I am so tempted to get a couple of the TS ones on ebay while they are cheap. It is sounding like that series is going to go fast.

OK, I'll stop talking about vinlymation now too. :rolleyes1

I know what you mean about long-term goals! Its so hard to resist planning Disney trips when they have such great promotions! I completely agree, and I really want his 5th Birthday trip to be one of those trips where we do EVERYTHING we have ever wanted to do. I think that after this year, I will be able to hold out, but who knows... I suppose it's possible I would go before if the situation was right, but I will never go "all out" until then!

I'm trying to work on my next update this evening. I still have to check my Photobucket to see how much bandwidth I have left. And I still have to find out if I can post pictures from another website instead of Photobucket. I have my pics saved on Snapfish, Shutterfly, Kodak Gallery, etc. It would make it so much easier on me if I could just post to DIS from one of those sites!

Can't believe you are leaving soon!!! How exciting!!! Hopefully while you're gone, I will catch up on your report so I can read all about your trip once you get back!!! :goodvibes

BWI sounds AMAZING!!! I would absolutely love to be close to Epcot & DHS. We "drove past" BWI when we were on the boat going to BC/YC this past June for our photosession. I really liked the look of BWI and it looks like its practically right beside everything!

I hear there's a bakery on the Boardwalk...:rolleyes1 (every trip, I'm obsessed with chocolate & Disney pastries!)

No, I don't post on Vinylnation, I just read their updates & look at their pictures! I had no idea a new set was coming out for the 40th anniv. of WDW! Where did you see the photos of that set & the others coming out in 2011? On the Disney blog site or Vinylnation or somewhere else? I really need to check that out!

I bet the designs for the 40th anniversary are really neat! I was surprised they didn't have special Vinylmations for Disneyland this year for their 55th anniversary especially when they came out with the new Dooney designs & other special anniversary merchandise.

I'll have to go visit Vinylnation this evening & look at the people's collections...I don't know how I missed seeing those! I definitely think some people take it waaaay overboard. I love them just as much as the next person, but like you said "come on!" lol

I know there is an event going on this weekend...and I'm super jealous that I couldn't go!!! :laughing:

I'm thinking like you...the TS ones will go fast & probably be hard to find even at the parks. I'm thinking about just buying maybe 2 or 3 of the ones I really want on ebay, like you said, while the prices aren't outrageous. I might just get Woody & Jessie & call it quits for that series! I'll let you know if I decide to buy any & will post pictures on here! (Keep me updated if you decide to buy any as well!) I was thinking this morning that as soon as Disney emails everyone that the TS vinylmations are available on their site, they will probably be sold out within hours that same day. Thats what made me start thinking about ebay.

I completely agree, and I really want his 5th Birthday trip to be one of those trips where we do EVERYTHING we have ever wanted to do. I think that after this year, I will be able to hold out, but who knows... I suppose it's possible I would go before if the situation was right, but I will never go "all out" until then!

I know what you mean...when Disney keeps releasing these great deals (especially Free Dining!) its very hard to resist planning another trip!!! :goodvibes

I think Shutterfly works with the DIS, but I'm not certain...

When you find out about shutterfly, let me know! I love shutterfly and it would be easier for me to upload from there since I will already have to load my pics onto shutterfly for my share site!
