Memorial Weekend 2010

Hello. We will be making our first DL trek this Memorial Day weekend. Have been to WDW many times and wanted to check out the other coast. Our preference was not to do a holiday weekend due to the crowds, but work schedule made this the only option in order to get a necessary Disney fix. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. thanks

Which specific days will you be visiting DL, DCA and the entire Disneyland Resort (DLR)?

Here are some thoughts to keep in mind...

o Fantasmic will re-open that Friday after being down for almost 5 months. There will be a surge of interest especially from the AP holders

o There is a huge new show opening at DCA called World of Color sometime soon. No official debut announcement yet. It has been reported to open May 1 but rumors are it may be delayed to June 1. If it is open in May expect it to draw huge crowds.

o Be aware of which days are AP blockout days. Those will be much better days to see Fantasmic and WOC if it is open. See "Understanding AP Blockouts and Impact on Crowds" http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2365983

We'll be there May 22-May 30 and I'm wondering about the crowd levels myself. I do hope that WOC holds off until after our trip. As much as I want to see it, I'd rather do it after the new wears off. My parents will be joining us at the end of the trip and will visit the parks one day. I'm debating on whether we should visit on Friday, May 28, or Saturday, May 29, because I want to go on the day with the least crowds.

Traditionally Memorial Day has not been that busy. But as I said in a PP, with Fantasmic opening after 5 months being down that will bump crowds. And if WOC opens before then it will really bump crowds. A lot hinges on that and know one knows yet.

Rivers of America – closed through May 6 for major refurbishment. This also closes all attractions requiring use of the river: Sailing Ship Columbia, Pirate's Lair on Tom Sawyer Island and Davy Crockett Explorer Canoes, Mark Twain Riverboat (closed until May 14), as well as the Fantasmic! nighttime show (closed until May 27).
