Why are you going back there? Aren't you sick of it? It's soooo expensive. How many times are you going to ride the giraffe ride?

Ahhh, yes. The uniformed, The uninspired, The unimaginative.
While from time to time I have also used terms like, "orlando" or "Florida", most around me have simply resigned themselves to our trips. I do sometimes say we own a timeshare in WDW - that seems to go over easier.

It's OK for people NOT to get it, after all, if everyone GOT IT, then do you realize how crowded WDW would be???

That said, I was annoyed last week, while talking to my cousin. I jokingly said something about having a family reunion in WDW, and she said my other cousin and family "hate WDW because it's SO commercial." Yet, they've never even been there! :sad2:
Oh, well, more room in the parks for the rest of us!

And welcome to the DVC community forum. I love your tag name. Pecos Bill was and still is one of my favorite Disney characters. I used to imagine I was him as a kid. Brings back memories.

As for telling others, for us it depends on who it is and what the situation is. My parents seem cool with it. My sister and her family too. My brother, he is the one that says "you going back again". Then I remind him of his love for the mountains and guiet him for awhile.

We too like to visit other places but I long for WDW.

As new dvc members, we are very excited about our upcoming trips this year. Especially our anniversary this summer, first trip without the kids. We spend lots of time thinking/talking about it. We made the mistake of talking about it to someone at church on Sunday and here is how the conversation went:

What? Why are you going to wdw for your anniversary?

Ummm.....we like wdw?

Why don't you go someplace else? Like go to Newfoundland and see icebergs?

:confused3 Ummmm....we like wdw?

I don't understand why people get so annoyed about our vacation choices.

I have been going to WDW for 24 years. It all started with the first trip with our daughter at age 3. Since then we have been back probably at least 50 times or more. We have now graduated to 4-5 trips a year. Usually something like a spring journey in May, a girl trip with my sister in August, another quick journey in Sept for a few days, another quick journey in October for food & wine and the 2-3 weeks journey just after Christmas for the holiday decoration and New Years Eve. We don't care what people think about our plans. We just go and keep having the times of our lives. We can do as much or as little as we want. I often ask people what they look for in their choice or hotels for vacations and respond with the fact that I have a choice of numerous resorts with the best in parks, golf, spas, restaurants, and shopping at my fingertips. I also get there within a short 2 hour flight. My husband and I do manage to travel elsewhere with a Vegas trip once a year and another trip as well. Last year it was England and the year before it was Hawaii. My family gets it with both sister and one brother being DVC members. The standard joke in my brother's office is... who in your family is at Disney world this week. Usually someone is there. Some people may not like our Mouse but how can they not like a great resort? Let them forever stay in the dark so that we may always find a place in our home whenever we need a pixie dust fix.........

I am not a DVC member, but DW and I have been tossing around the idea for a couple of months.

Even still, I get the same grief from my family. We have AP's right now b/c we honeymooned for 11 days in Sept. 04 It just made sense to by AP's then, and now we get to enjoy the perks of going more often.

My step-dad always rolls his eyes when we mention we are headed back to WDW. But he spend every weekend in the summer and at least a couple of weeks on his sailboat. He talks about how he loves it so much. Now being on the boat is nice, quiet and relaxing. But for the life of me, I cannot understand the joy of being all by yourself or with one other person on a boat that is 45 feet long and 10 feet wide. No shower. No comfortable chairs. Nothing to see but water, coastline and other boats. I finally told him, "WDW is to us like the boat is to you. Not everyone understands it, but we find the most joy in it." He nodded and hasn't said anything negative about WDW since.

They don't get it? Don't try and explain it. Like others have posted before lots of people have places they love to go every year that we don't get. You can't ''get'' it unless you've seen it and felt it. Even then some people just scoff at it or shrug there shoulders. Fair enough we'll just never see eye to eye on that subject. I'll go here you go there. Everyones happy. And if there not happy....they should of gone to WDW. :rolleyes1

In all fairness:

  • Some people get up at 4:00 am so they can play a round of golf! I don't get it.
  • Some people wait all year for winter to start so they can do their annual ski trip! I don't get it.
  • Some people go to the mall and spend hours doing nothing but looking at clothes! I don't get it.
  • Some people spend every weekend going to the smoke filled Casino! I don't get it.
  • Some people pay huge dollars to go to a baseball game every week! I don't get it.
  • Some people take a vacation off work so they can work on their yard! I don't get it.
  • Some people think that their favorite movie star walks on water! I don't get it.
  • Some people........ Well, this list could go on for a long time.

But on the other hand:
  • Some people love their college football team: I get that
  • Some people think that being a geek isn't all bad: I get that
  • Some people think that having an RV and camping is great fun! Gee, we have an RV. I get that one
AND......
  • Some people think that owning DVC and enjoying the magic as often as possible, is.... Well, nothing more need be said. I definitely GET THAT!

I guess it all comes down to , "To each his own"
