Member with Banked Add On Points Coming Question

These would be 2015 banked points that I would be getting so no transferring, right? But could I call and get them to use these points and give back my 2016's on the other use year so I could then bank those? Reservation made in 7 month window.
Technically they're not going to sub out the points though they might (or might not) in this situation for a single owner. In this situation they might transfer them for this situation, it's really hit or miss. Just have a plan either way. If the reservation is still available you could reserve with the new contract and cancel the old reservation.

Hadn't thought about making a new reservation. So just to be clear in my mind, same use year/same home resort, no problem. Different use year, or different home resort, a big maybe.

It's difficult to make generalized statements in this situation as there are many nuances and the rules are often blurred for multiple master contracts of a single owner. As a rule the same UY and exact title are combined and can be used together as one at the 11 month window for the same home resort and at 7 months even if different home resorts. If they are separate masters for any reason, they are technically treated like 2 separate owners though they will give some flexibility at times on a case by case basis. IMO it's worth waiting for the right UY in most situations, esp for the same home resort. Sometimes there are benefits from multiple master contracts but if there aren't, the aggravations aren't worth it IMO. It is a little less of an issue if the home resorts are different but you will have issues combining points at 7 months out.

Thanks for all the great info. Disney actually took 2 inside of a week that were the resort and yr needed. I wanted to stay with the same UY and after reading your post, probably will now. Also was thinking about a different resort, but didn't realize that I'd still be better off keeping the same use year. So your saying that different resorts that have the same UY are looked upon as one at the 7 month window, but different UYs aren't even if both are in the 7 month window.

That's correct.

Just look at a different UY almost as if it were owned by someone else. As Dean mentioned there are a few different nuances or sometimes a CM will do something that technically wouldn't normally be allowed but because it really is getting some pixie dust you just can't count on it.

A qualified yes. If they are under one master they can be used in combination at the 7 month mark but not all contracts will be combined into one master even if the same UY. IMO, in the ascent of a reason to do otherwise, it's best to have them combined. That goes double if the contracts are smaller, the smaller a given contract the more strongly I'd personally feel one wants them combined. Some reasons to have them separate are to target a given trip with a better UY, purposefully have them titled differently or to get more wait list spots.

Banked or Borrowed Home Resort Vacation Points may not be Transferred.

Also there is a limit on when you can transfer points because if the points you are transferring are 2016 points and the other UY is in their 2017 UY you cannot transfer the 2016 points.

Disney is nothing if not inconsistent. I can tell you unequivocally that they have made many exceptions over the year including likely 8-10 within my accounts. But it's on a case for case basis and where it makes sense. That includes transferring banked and borrowed points and multiple within a given UY. Basically where the points need to be in one account to go forward. I have also discussed this issue formally with DVC middle management on at least 2 occasions. It happens, it's case by case but it can't be guaranteed or even pinned down until you're actually ready to do so.

This exact same thing happened to me recently. Member services were not helpful... I wanted 10 days at Aulani, and was "holding" some of those days with limited availability with my current membership (didn't hold all 10 days as I would have had to borrow points and then they would be stuck in this use year). Because my new membership (with expiring banked points) has a different use year, when I finally closed on the contract and got the points in my account, they would not reallocate the points, and instead only would book the available days. This left me with 3 days booked on my old contract and 7 days booked on my new contract with the banked points. They made me waitlist those 3 days with the new contract, so when someone else cancelled, thankfully my waitlist came through and then I could cancel those days that were now double booked on my old membership. They said because it was a different use year/membership, there was no guarantee they could "grab" those days when I cancelled, and there was a chance I would lose the booking. I complained and asked for a supervisor, and she said they may have been able to do it if we were direct purchasers, which is BS... My husband was going to call back and lose it with them if the waitlists didn't come through quickly.
EDIT- oh and it is my understanding that if you change which points you use for the booking within 30 days, the previous points you used to hold the reservation will become holding points

I had the exact same situation except with BCV and VGF reservation for Jan/Feb 2017. I had booked inside 7 months with first contract using some banked, all current and a few borrowed points. I then got a second contract at same resort but with different UY. Called to reallocate and after she got her boss in on it (and 35 mins later), she transferred my points from once account to the other and then reallocated my 2nd UY points into the reservation. She then BANKED my BORROWED DEC 2017 points back into 2017! Needless to say I was pretty happy about that.

None of my points went into holding since we were more than 30 days out from the ressie.
