was considering buying UPHs for my family members for our future trip.

i seem to recall there are some restrictions on the discount.

my questions:
1. is there a minimum length of stay pass that you must get in order to qualify for the discount? i.e. you have to buy a pass for at least 3days/2nights or something?
2. if you're staying for 4 nights, and don't want to pay for park passes on your arrival and departure days, can you then buy a 3day/2night pass just for the middle part of your stay, and still qualify for the discount?
3. is our Member discount off of the Gate price only? (for ex. the Gate price including tax for a 6day/5night pass is $323.76) am i correct in thinking there is NO discount for advance purchase UPHs?
4. any other rules/restrictions i should know about?

TIA for your help.

1. I think the minimum is 1 night, 2 days.

2. The rules say LOS including check in and check out but many have reported being able to drop both the first and last day. I think the minimum is 1 night, 2 days.

3. Of the full price only, DVC members are not entitled to he advance discount for points or cash through MS stays I'm told. They are not entitled to the 10% discount if not staying on points so they are mutually exlusive.

4. I can't think of any, maybe someone else can. Other than the member should be present though they haven't enforced this one either.

The full 10 point description can be found on the Member Site under "Member Benefits and Privileges".

You can only buy them at your resort at check-in (and only when staying at DVC resorts on points or member discount) and the 10% is off the full rate price. People have usually been allowed to drop the first and/or last days from the UPH. There is no minimum number of days that must be purchased. I'm not sure on the pricing since a pass that you buy at the gate is different than a UPH pass. However, the discount is off the full price and not any discount that may be available by advance purchase.

I've copied one of the points from the list. Some people have found this not to be enforced but it is there. Someone renting points or someone you send on a trip without you is not entitled to the discount and may not be able to get it.

7. Discounted Unlimited Park Hopper Ticket may be purchased only by DVC Members and accompanying Guests, staying in the same Vacation Home, on a Vacation Points reservation or Member cash discount reservation at Disney's Old Key West Resort, Disney’s BoardWalk Villas, The Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge or Disney’s Beach Club Villas.

You might also want to consider what your vacation pattern will be. Many DVC'ers find that the UPH, even with the discount, is not the best choice for frequent visitors. An AP or PAP might be worthwhile or you may want to buy multi-day passes that allow you to use unused days on future trips.

If you're staying for four nights you'd need a 4 night/5 day pass unless you drop days. The least you'd be able to get for that length stay would be a 2 night/3 day pass. The DVC discount would be applied to the full rate for that pass and the pass cannot be purchased in advance.

Enjoy!
