I called today to hopefully get my member number. I was told they wouldn't give it to me over the phone because I had no way to identify myself. I've read lots of people have called and gotten the number. Very unhappy. :(

Call the broker you used to purchase the contract. They can get the member number for you.

Did you speak with Member Administration or Member Services? In the past, Member Administration would give new members their member number by asking for some specific details about your purchase.

I feel your frustration...they will not give you your # on the phone or via email..."they are not allowed to" according to MS. We rec'd our letter in the mail w/our # about 2 weeks after the contract was transferred over to us. Hope that helps!

Thanks, at least I'm not alone. I've read so many others calling and getting the number. Ironic thing is I get a packet of information today from DVC that contained basic information and a pretty brochure with all the resorts and locations. It was to me as a member but it didn't have my number on it. :(

I rec'd that too---IMO it does no good to mail it w/o the letter containing the member #!!!
Wait about 1 week & you will receive a letter w/your # on it, nothing else, just the membership #. The really big packet takes 4-6-8 weeks from what I was told. We just went thru this so I do empathize w/you! I cannot find a good reason why you can't find out the # when you close, considering you spent a lot of money to purchase the contract. The sellers name, etc is given to you, so why not a new # after closing?!? Just IMHO! Good luck!

P.S. AFTER you receive the #, wait a day or two. You will have to call DVC to set up the online account, so you can research info, make reservations, etc...AFTER your points are transferred. That is a separate process after the contract is transferred. It took about 30 mins to do that, so have time when you call & be on your computer too! Hope this extra info helps you!

If you filled out the SSN form and your Broker forwarded it to the DVC, you should be able to use your SSN as proof of your identity.

Also you need to also understand the way that the DVC works, call back and you will get a different answer. :goodvibes

Call Member Administration, make sure you have the contract number and the previous owners' names and your SSN. That was how I got my member number.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I was able to get my number. Hopefully I can call tomorrow and get my online account set-up. Thanks again!

So what was it that made the difference? It could be helpful to someone else in your situation, and to those of us offering suggestions so we'll know what worked in your case.

Dumb luck made the difference. The Guide who had tried to sell me DVC originally called to congratulate us. He was able to give me the number.

Thanks for the update. I'm still unclear on one thing, did you originally call Member Services or Member Administration? Usually Member Admin will give new members their member number provided they can provide certain details from the contract they purchased. Did you call Member Admin and did they refuse to provide your member number to you? Just curious.

Admin. I emailed my realtor and was told they stopped giving the info by phone a couple of months ago.
