Member meetings and Block partys questain

Has anyone attended the latest members meeting at Saratoga Springs or went to the block party at Pleasure island on Thursdays? What do they do at these? Are they worth losing time at the parks for?

We're planning to attend the block party at DTD this week. With the block party, you get admission into the PI clubs for the remainder of the evening. To me, that's worth an evening away from the parks. 5-7 is such a hot time of day anyway - I like a break around then.

The members who attended the member meeting I was at a few months back obvouisly were not DISer's because they didn't seem to know much about what was going on at WDW or what their membership was really worth. I seem to remember the meeting was about an hour and there were some giveaways, some were actually pretty nice. They went over current happenings and reminded us of things like what you could get for your membership (discounts, new resorts, etc.) When we were last there the Atlantis hotel was recently added to the list and they mentioned it, everyone was "wowing" and I was thinking.. "don't you DIS? I knew that a month ago"

I guess not everyone has the same addictions

Is the Block Party just a summer thing? We go to DVD during January and February and it seems that the only thing going on at that time is the annual member meetings.

I've never heard of an annual meeting for any of the DVC resorts in January or February. They have always been between Thanksgiving and the first week of December since I have been a member. In December, they have had the holiday gatherings that have been fun too. I suspect there isn't going to be much special going on in the lower occupancy times.

We attended the new 'Welcome Home Wednesdays' a couple of weeks ago. It was really nice. They had cookies and drinks for everyone. The "meeting" was actually a game show with a host, buzzers and the whole nine yards. They grabbed people from the audience to participate.

I fully expected it to be just a sales pitch to try and get us to buy more points but that wasn't the case at all. The questions in the game show were just questions about member perks and all around basic DVC knowledge. Questions like: "In which DVC resort could you eat at Cape May's?" We really enjoyed it! My daughter had a ball. It was only about 45-50 minutes and we all got free DVC ball caps for attending. At $20 a piece, we got $60 of free DVC stuff. We will definitely attend again if they are still doing it when we return.

Another good thing about the meeting being at Boardwalk is you can get there very easily from Epcot or MGM.
